I tried the search function the results where either different in subject or way outdated.  
 
The Phantom Stranger may be the most powerful (and coolest) magician today but he has almost zero feats. Hell, even his battle with the Spectre was off-panel. 
 
I haven't followed Strange since his hands were broken by the Hulk. Is he back with his usual abilities? 
 
The last time I saw Fate was when Nabu fought with the Spectre.

Doom's probably up there, too. He was considered for Sorceror Surpreme at a couple different times.

I want to say Strange in Marvel, Fate in DC; however, magic's a little more loosely-defined in DC, allowing for magic-users to be roughly in the same league with one another. I mean, you've got Shazam, Black Alice, Zatanna - all very powerful, even when against each other.
