Which phenomena is better magic or science. If it were to go against each other in an all out battle which would win supposing that both users are expert wielders of their craft.

Okay phenomena aside. Which is better magic or science. The type of magic is regular magic like Doctor Strange magic which ever is the strongest, sorry don't know much about the different types of magic. The type of science is whatever the smartest genius can muster up and the user has all the technological need at his disposal.

the thing is that these two are entirely different concepts. magic is a power, science is an understanding.

So the Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange versus the strongest representation of science? Does a mutant count, if so, Franklin Richards would pawn him.

It is. Cause the strongest user of magic is Dormammru(Ya know who, hard to spell his name) and he could nearly pawn all except Franklin Richards. The strongest form of science could be said to be the mutant race.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is  indistinguishable  from magic, and since technology is derived of science there is really no difference between the two.  Magic is just science that we haven't figured out yet.

@eserrano05:  No, not the common Hulk. Check up on Hulk again. Worldbreaker Hulk is a different persona than Savage Hulk. WWH would be a special case. Thor could handle Hulk, Molecule Man could, Vulcan could have, Sentry did, Red Hulk could, Hulkbuster armor could. Hulk has been defeated just as many times by magic as science.

@eserrano05:  He could be killed if they negate or drain his gamma based powers. And several other non magic based entities could kill him. Vulcan would defeat him by draining his gamma radiation or Silver Surfer could annihilate him with Power Cosmic. Could go on with who all could kill Hulk.

okay to clarify the science i am talking about is just plan inventing technological gadgets like iron man does. He goes through a battle and if he loses he makes an even better weapon to counter act what he is dealing with. So do you think technological can go up against magic. Hope that clarifies

MMmmmh, I will say the are equal, because it's just the same things in comics. Check Galaktus : he's a being who use science, and the ultimate annihilator is an technological object, yet they're power is nigh encompassing. When I think of what can do Doom, or Reed Richard with technology, it's just frightenings.

Sure, Magic look more easy, but it's still manage to have many and less controlable drawback : demon, gods, cosmics entities, and many other thing like that.

I will just use this quote that's really apply in comics : "Any level of  sufficient high level of technology is indistinguishable of magic".

you should have said powers induced via Science or Magic. in this case it is the shear force of will that will unlock their potential. Magic is eternal, possibly extra dimensional . Science is constantly  in development, ever evolving. . still too vague. end.

Magic users are more powerful.  Take Shuma Gorath for example, it's always been a magic user to stop him.  Tech people cannot.

Magic is sprituality given power.  Entities can bestow magic upon their followers, and people that are connected to the earth and it's rythms can call on it's energies in order to accomplish feats such as weather manipulation (Aerika Harkness).  Magic can't be figured out, because it has no scientific backing.  You need yourself, practice, spirituality, and, the quickest/easiest way, the respect of a God, and then you can have power to do a variety of things.

Magic because they don't have to follow the rules of science or fight fair. But they are only as strong as the writer wants them to be.

Galactus is a god with godlike powers that grants silver surfer his. Other than Skaar using the old power(is it science or magic) to beat juggeraunt's magical armor, magic is usually more powerfully because it is so open ended.

I vote magic. Why? In fictional terms magic is just science in an super sense. It's energy with unlimited potential.  Corporeal and Physical. Living energy.  I give a few examples. Holy Magic of GOD or the one above all. The marvel supreme being and d.c. supreme being. Use this type of power or knowledge to create their own universe. The d.c. specter used this same energy to do the impossible. Same goes for living tribunal. Magic is "Plot device."

In WWHulk series. Dr. Strange could've rid the Hulk with ease. He comments on that frequently throughout the whole series.
What to stop Dr. Strange? His stupid soft personality. Friendship, Responsibility as a hero, ETC. Basically magic is usually restricted or limited by the user. A full bloodust magic user is someone to be feared. Sometimes I really wish strange would grow a set of balls and control that dark magic of his.

    @eserrano05: Magic is not infinite.
And both the Cosmic Cube(created by humans) AND the Ultimate Nullifier(created by Galactus) are scientifically developed devices.
Both are universe busting devices (the UN at its peak is multiverse busting device).
No magical artifact shown till now (at least in Marvel ) is capable of matching these 2 objects' scale of power and feats.
    In the end  ........................................................................................................................................................

So an extra-dimensional energy force from a different plane, that is only bound by select few laws that varies between dimensions, universes, and franchises is the same thing as the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment? Um yeah Marvel's definition has and will always be garbage to anyone who gives it serious thought. Going by the definition of science - witch craft, sorcery, mysticism and other schools of magic practices are the actual "sciences". As to which is better, it depends on the work of fiction. Technically Eternity and the living tribunal are the greatest magic users in Marvel. In DC the Spectre, Lucifer Morning Star, Michael, Nabu, Phantom Stranger, and The Presence are the strongest magic users in DC. Marvel's technological achievements are good but they can't even touch the highest tier magic users in DC and other franchises unless we are talking about Celestial's whose technology is cosmic power/energy based but higher tiers beat them too.

Science is the possibilty understanding all concepts of meaning and existence and has infinite purposes, Magic is pure chaos but still bound by a higher dominion of existence which science can also produce or understand making science capable of breaking through what is possible, magic can already do the impossible but science can do the impossible by evolving or outdoing situational phonomena.

Science is magic that is brought out by knowledge and curiosity which if fully mastered becomes indistiguished from mystic phenomena, or hell it's just untapped energy that science has not initialized for fundamental living for lifeforms due to not creating a logic conductiton on it.

Abstracts(and maybe elder gods) however are beings that are scientifically limitless in understanding magic that they can virtually handle omnipotent power that basically make ideas come to life.

I agree that this concept is a little too fuzzy for a concrete answer. Also, the phrase: "Any level of sufficient high level of technology is indistinguishable of magic" came from a science fiction author, Arthur C. Clarke. A writer I like, but still a writer.

I think the theory that magic (since according to MOST comic universes) is limited only by the will, imagination, and usually some archaic magical rules set up somewhere. To me, this is also a way that a sufficiently high level of science beyond our comprehension could be said to work. Again, the differences, practically, are pretty muddied.

The only real difference I see is A. How the reader chooses to enjoy the medium B. What the publishers of the medium have SAID the differences between the two are. I don't think I've seen anything that says one is more powerful than the other. For instance...we KNOW Galactus was created, is powered, and fed by scientific means, but he's operating on such a high level that he almost seems like magic, or a force of nature. S'how I see it anyway.

@mazeraiii: The problem is that Captain Marvel's Wisdom tends to be very wishy washy, and hard for him to interpret correctly. Magic is a natural phenomena and a metaphysical energy force, science is the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. Science studies forces but is not a force itself. Ergo they are not the same thing. Don't even get me started on the "human" (a species that all fiction depicts as being incapable of fully understanding magic) coin thing.
