After the original Mad Hatter had been sent to Arkham, a very different Mad Hatter appeared, who claimed to be Jervis Tetch. The second Hatter's methods and obsessions with hats, were quite different from his predecessor. He built his crimes crimes around the hat themselves, stealing unusual, famous and valuable hats from local museums, for his own collection. He made repeated attempts, to steal Batman cowl, until was finally defeated and sent to prison. Later, he began using hats containing special weapons to steal money and valuables. When the real Jervis Tetch returned, he claimed to to have "disposed" of his imposter, presumably thought murder. However, imposter later reappeared alive again and returned to crime under the name Hatman. Revealed as Arkham inmate in Secret Origins #44, in Who's Who in the DC Universe #13, Doctor Fate vol. 2 #18 and Resurrection Man vol. 2 #6.
