Part one of the four-part "Children & Monsters" -- a great starting point for new readers. Lucifer has his wings back, and he's one step closer to his mysterious goal. But now the Host of Heaven are gathering for an all-out assault against the city of Los Angeles, and everything's up for grabs. In London, the schoolgirl Elaine Belloc is offered a teasing glimpse of her own true nature, while the Morningstar makes the first move in his long-awaited endgame.

Elaine Belloc receives a warning from her grandmothers to beware of "children and monsters". Lucifer sets up a guard in the Void, as Heaven plans their attack on the Lux. A suicidal man wakes up in The Dreaming after taking some sleeping pills where he meets the devil who tells him some news that gives him a renewed wish to live life.
