Despite having once appeared in human form, the Overlord is in truth a "psychic processing terminal," a "world sculptor" who takes the raw material of the collective unconscious and shapes it into archetypes and personified symbols within the Ultra-Realm. The Lords of Darkness intend to descend into its lair, and pour their foul attributes directly into its heart, to infect Earth and all of existence. Savage-Falkon hasn't wanted a fight since his ego death, but bears a debt to the Overlord to restore balance by slaying the Dark-Lords, starting by flash-frying Squamonton in his own fat. Though outnumbered, Savage-Falkon has absorbed all of the power of the Light-Lords he felled, allowing him to end the Prince of Greed with that one energy blast.

Likewise, Savage-Falkon swiftly batters and guts Zorla, absorbing his strength, but is still grievously wounded by Shatragon. Eddie prompts Tank to join the fight, despite his bum arm, using weapons left by Zorla against the Dark-Lords. Both promptly perish under the searing glare of the Prince of Hate. Triggered by the sight, Savage-Falkon's fury is lethal, swiftly claiming Shatragon, Myridian, and Murkon. Only Mortanos, Prince of Death remains to shatter the Overlord's glass heart and travel to Earth. He is pursued by Savage-Falkon, as they ride a train to Brooklyn to murder Michael's mother. Savage-Falkon stops the act and by his presence offers at least some assurance that her son didn't betray his country. Savage-Falkon defeats Mortanos, then takes him back alive to the Ultra-Realm.

The Overlord convinces Savage-Falkon to kill and replace him/they/it, colored by his human experiences on Earth. New Overlord then revives the Lords of the Ultra-Realm, doubling their number to twenty-four, with gender balance and the impregnation of elements of opposing attributes in each. It was all part of a repeating process of renewal, this time meaning the Lords will be less polarized and more tempered by perspective. Also, New Overlord will be able to walk among the rest, rather than being isolated.

Nuclear holocaust is averted on Earth, and in fact to most recent events are mostly rendered as unto a shared dream or nightmare. Eddie and Tank are restored with at least some sense of the Ultra-Realm. Michael Savage avoids conflict with the street gang, meets Janice Portinari again, and takes her home to meet his mother.

For A More Perfect Balance... I would go 2.5 stars. Art rounds to a 3. 0

Always wanted to read this mini-series, based on the cool "Nicer Guys You Could Find In Hell" house ad, the highly detailed Broderick art, and having a name as metal as Lords of the Ultra-Realm. However, the final issue letters column confirms that the early issues were grossly under-ordered and going for period premium pricing reportedly between $5-12 asked for the first issue. Writer/Editor Doug Moench reported sales increases of 10,000 copies on #4 and another 5,000 on #5. Point being, if I e...
