Loras Tyrell is the third son of Lord Mace Tyrell and Lady Alerie Hightower. He grew up in privilege at Highgarden, and was fostered at Storm's End where he served as a squire to Renly Baratheon. The two grew close and are lovers in secret, though the relationship is known to a few members of the court. The two secretly plot to have King Robert spurn Queen Cersei in hopes that he will marry Loras's sister, Margaery.
Despite his slender frame and youth, he is a skilled and capable warrior, and is deadly with melee weapons. At each tournament, he is known to give red roses to ladies. He is courteous and beloved by the smallfolk, but he also has a short temper and can be impetuous. His personal coat of arms is three golden roses on a field of green, indicating his position as a third son.
