Just saw the movie, great character material, great set, great acting.
I almost found myself cheering for the Loki character, weird!?!
I think Kenneth and Tom added so much material and dimension to Loki
Did you almost cheer for Loki?
Loki
Character » Loki appears in 2202 issues.
Loki is the Jötunn/Asgardian God of Mischief and Prince of Lies, the adopted son of Odin and typically nemesis of his brother, Thor, as well as the adoptive brother to former Guardian of the Galaxy, Angela. Loki has schemed against Thor and Asgard for ages and his cosmic meddling led to the formation of the Avengers. Recently reincarnated, he decided to reform. Going on to protect the realms as the agent of Asgard, then as the sorcerer supreme, to defeating Laufey and becoming king of Jotunnheim.
ThorMAJOR-SPOILER were you almost rooting for LOKI?
If you were rooting for Loki you are in, all likelihood, intrisically evil.
I did not even come any where near cheering for the vile, manipulative, snake.
I actually liked Loki a lot and even as messed up and evil as he was I think he would have made a far better King than Thor. Loki is this kind of person who has a deep, deep mental character flaw. He does crazy stuff because he can't help it, like Tiger Woods is a great sports star but can't help grind his hip into random call girls or how Mel Gibson is a very good action star and made some interesting movies but can't help but go insane every couple of months, say crazy stuff against jews and get drunk and say other crazy stuff...these character flaws do not take away from their abilities
Now in no way to I condone or support anything Mel Gibson or Tiger Woods have done that's wrong, all I have said is they are still great actors, great golf players etc
Loki to me was still a man capable of being a great Asgardian
The character portrayal kinda reminded me of some the crazy people I have meet in my life

He'd be an awesome villain to return for Avengers.Once you get over his bad actions, once you forgive his bad sins he doesn't look so bad. Ok sure he attacked the warriors 3, attacked Heimdall, almost killed Thor but look at his family history, he's torn up inside and his mind is still good enough to launch some of the most cunning military strategys . Loki is going through an insane emotional character development. He has this weird anarchist, self destructive, prankster streak to his character, he wants to engage in the theatrical and put on a show to make himself look good. Once you see his growth and history and his motivation you see Loki isn't just a bad guy, he isn't just an anarchist. He doesn't want to burn down Asgard or blow up Asgard, his character flaws come from living a whole life with a constant deep sense of betrayal. Thor as a boy got approval from his father, he was 2 seconds from being the All Father Skyfather of Asgard because that's how much Odin support him but Loki was always seen as the weaker one left in the cold. Living a life of rejection and having a self destructive force that's where all this theatrical, prankster, practical jokes come from. He has gone through an emotional whirl wind and now he wants to put on a show to gain his father's love or father's approval. I don't think he ever wanted the Frost Giants to Attack Asgard for real, if you notice he only allowed a hand full in. That's not a traitor helping a full scale invasion. Loki wanted the Frosties in so Loki could go and show how superior his mind was to Thor, Loki used them as stage props so he could look tough and heroic whenever he was there to show up Thor in front of Odin. Remember Thor and Loki were not just normal brothers they were competitors to the Throne. In the end of the movie, with the foreign blood connection established Loki reminded me of the stories of Japanese-Americans who risked their lives to fight against an Imperial/Fascist Japan or reminded me of this kind of bravery and loyalty to his home
Loki's plan to actually defeat the Frost Planet would have worked, while Thor as a King would have just got most of his men killed

""You could almost agree with his argument of saving Asgard from his brothers 'idiotic rule' for a few years, because to be honest thats a valid point.
Would it really have been idiotic?
Thor's actions that got him banished from Asgard were brought upon by the frost giants that "somehow" got into Asgard.
Thor looked at that as an act of war.
However, Loki was the one behind it all. Therefore...if Loki had done nothing...than Thor wouldn't have felt the need to go to war with the frost giants.
" @Vitality: If he had taken time to think though the situation like Odin did then he wouldn't have run the risk of plunging the nine realms into another cycle of war, he looked for only one option and entertained no other, one that could have cost countless lives, he couldn't see past his own ego, he needed to be humbled and although extreme Loki's actions aided in this. "
My point is that...if Loki had not done what he did....Thor would not have done what he did.
Odin says...and I'm paraphrasing...."A king must never want to wage war...but he must always be prepared for it".
Sure...those few frost giants failed...but the fact is that they tried to take back their source of great power. Why would they need that power if not for war?
I rooted for Loki a little, because he was less evil, and more of a neglected child. He was always treated lesser than his brother, who was supposed to be his equal, only to watch as said brother, who is brash, conceited, brutish, and a little bit of a d!ck, take the throne and with Thor's mindset at the time, would have probably led to the deaths of many asgardians. Not only that, he learns that his entire life was a lie, and that he is actually the descendant of a race that he was taught was dangerous and inferior. And even when he seemingly betrayed Asgard, he did it to prove to his father that he was good enough to rule and protect Asgard and was worthy to be his son, only to be stopped by the prodigal son, Thor. I actually had a lot of sympathy for Loki. Kinda like Satan from "Paradise Lost". I'm not inherently evil, its just that I could understand how those condition could warp someone's mind, and sense of right and wrong. Plus, Hiddleston's portrayal of the character was spot on, and you could really see the malice and pain in Loki's eyes
i didnt root for him but i like how they made the audience sympathise him. the actor who played him played him spot on
the character was really well done but no i did not root for him. SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.
Nah I wasn't rooting for Loki, but I would've loved to see more scenes where Thor and Loki fought side by side.
I find myself rooting for Loki alot, not so much in this movie though. In Thor and Loki: Blood Brother's I feel compelled to side with him.
