A couple weeks ago on Twitter, unofficial talk began about Lois Lane deserving her own series. Even creators such as Sterling Gates, Gail Simone, Greg Rucka and Phil Jimenez all expressed their love for the character. Lois made her debut back in 1938 in Action Comics #1 with Superman and deserves her own series. She's had a series before before with Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane which lasted over one hundred issues, as well as some other series.

It makes perfect sense for Lois to get her own title. She is the number one person in Superman's life. She managed to get her own series back in 1958. Female characters have proven that they can carry a title on their own. And if Lex Luthor can take over Action Comics, Lois deserves her own adventures as well.

There may be those asking how Lois could possibly carry her own series. Let's face it, Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane was a little on the silly side and got a bit stereotypical at times. Lois is a different character these days. The premise for a solo series would be easy.

A new Lois Lane series wouldn't be about Lois sitting around waiting for Superman to return from his adventures. Lois is a tough character. She grew up as the daughter of General Sam Lane. She has been placed in danger time and time again. She won't stand down when faced against the odds. As an investigative reporter, she could easily go on assignments around the world.

We have so many superhero comics and a Lois Lane comic could bring something different. Let's see Lois go after the big stories that other reporters are afraid to cover. There is so much corruption hidden in the bowels of the DC Universe that Lois would have no problem keeping busy. We could see Lois trying to go behind the scenes and uncover the secrets of the DC Universe and have the occasional cameo appearance by Superman and other random characters. Since she's supposed to be such a great and prize-winning journalist, let's see her prove that. The recent Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsenspecials by James Robinson were great because they showed Jimmy trying to uncover a huge secret which nearly cost him his life. Comic books don't have to focus on superheroes all the time.

DC has gotten wind of the Lois Lane series talk. Let's hope they decide to take a chance and do something about it. They could easily put out a one shot or miniseries to see how it does in sales. With the right creative team, a Lois Lane comic would be a great comic and could give us something different.

I love Lois. That said, I'd rather a Clark & Lois comic than just a Lois focus comic. I can never have enough Clark and Lois goodness :)

It wouldn't be a bad idea. It would definitely had potentials.

I would have been doubtful but the recent run with Luthor on Action Comics inspires me.  I think you hit the nail on the head with 'something different'. It could be very refreshing.  I like that Comics can and have been very dynamic and not afraid of pleasing fans now and again (Lalfeeze Xmas special? Yes please) This could be cool.
 
Thinking about it now, who wouldn't love to see Lois' reaction to Lex's robot?

I would love a new Jimmy Olsen series. DC introduced Chloe into his life and Jimmy got a feat. story in the Action-Comics - I guess it would be a great lead-in for a new Jimmy Olsen Series.

Yes.

YES. Absolutely she should. As a woman and a journalist, I found her incredibly inspirational. And there are many female journalists who have published award-winning books that people want to read about their journeys to places we can't normally go (Martha Gellhorn, Jan Wong, Michele Shepherd, etc.) It's something a writer could do that's different (think Bendis' Alias starring Jessica Jones) and I think it would sell well. 

As a big fan of Ben Ulrich and the front line magazine i can imagine that a series with lois as an investigative reporter can be fun. 
When i think about "marvel copying dc" and "dc copying marvel" i wonder why this isnt happend allready yet!

I like Lois a lot, and I agree if Lex, Conner, Mon-EL, Supergirl, Power Girl and so on can all have books, why not Miss Independent?  I could work if the team is good and the fans have money.  my problem with the mainstream is how the related titles bleed into each other to bleed us readers dry.  This is why I went Vertigo those years ago....
 
As much as I like Lois, I rather the Madame Xanadu series didio and co canned.  As great as Lois is as the strong woman she is, I won't read the book monthly.  I don't read Lex loyally monthly, so I won't read Lois monthly.   Mainstream comics get more leeway then Vertigo does, with the new contract, I think I have to keep on double dipping to help keep some overlooked books a float and if they finish naturally, the mainstream can read it later....

I really like Lois and having her own series would be interesting to see, but how long could it go on? Even though Lex took over Action Comics look at the resources he has as a character. Lois is just a reporter who happens to be married to Superman. She may be a tough woman, but ultimately in the end Lois would get into something so deep that her only way out alive would be for superman to save her. That would ultimately end up being the formula for an ongoing series and personally that sounds like it would get old quickly.  
 
Now if Lois had a mini-series or maybe a year long series (if you had a good writer), like Generation Lost which is supposed to end with issue 26, then the possibilities are more open. Lois is a good, strong character that I would love to see more of, but I do not think she is strong enough to carry her own ongoing series.

I generally love the "support characters" series, they usually involve aspects of the comic world that main characters don't touch enough. The Daily Bugle mini from 1996 was quite interesting - shame it only last 3 issues - and it demonstated that JJJ can be a great guy when he's not busy trying to expose/capture Spider-man.

I think Lois would make a great launch pad for a journalistic procedural, but someone has to have a story in them... Gotham Central, Ex Machina, Chase, The Pulse, Eye of the Camera, etc. (a litany of manga) show that this kind of credible professional procedural comic with a little bit of capes hybrid storytelling can work really well.  The two big questions are: 1) Does any body have this story in them?; and 2) Is this is a good extension of the brand? 
 
The issues are sort of intertwined, because a good journalistic procedural can really be spun into many / any character- new ones, existing ones that want to play detective / reporter / inquisitor / etc... so if you have a really great mystery plot, do you want to spend it on Lois who is already such a powerful brand unto herself and also under the tremendous weight of the Superman franchise... or do you go with a character entirely liberated from that or your own creation?  Similarly, a lot of the above examples deal with really real, gritty, and compromised situations and characters, which again would do wonders for Superman's better half as a character, but also potentially stain the cape or put it under scrutiny it isn't compatible with... Superman's great but realistic and gritty isn't his forte- it isn't meant to be... and short of giving Lois what amounts to an in-book separation from Superman, it'd be hard to tell the standard journalistic procedural with her... 
 
...that said, who said she has to go that route?  The hybridization of capes and profession has also been done in wacky fashion like with Slott's She-Hulk, just about every student / scientist, etc.  But not every writer has that balance in them or a story to tell. 
 
I feel like if someone had a story in them and they pitched it, DC should go for it... but if it's just a matter of forcing a series to exist and shopping for someone to fill the pages, it's not a series worth doing with so many other characters in need of exposure and characterization (Lois have more comic stories and other media adaptations than the JLA- sans World's Finest- combined!).

I would love to see a Lois Lane series, but only if Greg Rucka or Gail Simone writes it with Nicole Scott doing the art.

LL comic would be a great idea..the character has much unused potential in her :-)

That'll be good.  With Greg being her biggest fan, we'll see more of them.  And maybe Batwoman.  Actually this has a lot of potential.  Could be one to attract more female readers like DC want. "

Well since Lois really doesn't have anything else better to do, her own series would be good! However, the trouble she runs into (e.g. Superman's rogues gallery), she's also going to need a signal watch. I don't know why Lois didn't get a signal watch like Jimmy. Jimmy hardly ever runs into trouble like Lois.

Give her a new book and let the sales decide the book's fate.

As Other remember Renee Montoya, I imagine a comic like Gotham Central, in the manner or treatment. Not a lot of heroes, good script and conversations, and the ironic sense of humor that she uses for bite her husband.

In my opinion Lois is too far removed from the action and superheroics to have a consistently entertaining book.Granted she could get kidnapped or even take down a few lesser villains what with her ballsyness and self defense training but I would imagine the majority of her book would be about the Daily Planet and well I am just not a huge fan of "Journalistic Drama" a genre I just made up.The bottom line is although I like Lois, for who she is, I wouldn't read a book that is just about her.Basically, I wouldn't read it for the same reason I wouldn't read a Vicki Vale comic or a comic about Alfred's daily life or Hal Jordan's brother etc...

You know with DC's love of the Pre-Crisis it's surprising that this hasn't happened yet.

Superman is not the biggest franchise now and I am not sure it could support another character getting a book especially one with no powers or costume Supergirl and Superboy do have books at the moment but they can stand on their own Lois Lane would be hurt by the fact that she would not be able to do allot. 
 
As much as people love the Action Comics starring Lex run I do not know if it was a smart idea the book sells worse then the Grounded arc people hate and has been hurt by the lack of Superman many are not interested in it without Superman. After years of the long crossover in New Krypton and now with Superman being put in one book no one is really happy with I think Superman and his supporting characters need to be together again.  
 
Also Lois Lane having her own book would either make her own book not as important or deprive Superman of his best supporting character one would suffer.

I don't think Lois could carry an ongoing. If you're not fighting crime/supervillains or saving the world, your ongoing is gonna suck, sales will plummet and they'll scrap it anyway. I think Lois could carry a miniseries or maybe have her be the "second feature" in Superman books or Action Comics if the plan is for her story to intersect the plot of a main title. 
 
I think my ideal situation would be to use the non-titular character titles as vehicles for the sideline characters to show how they intersect with the main story. Use Action Comics or Detective Comics or whatever to showcase the supporting characters. If Superman is busy fighting some threat, Action Comics can show Lois working on a story, doing some of that investigative reporting she's supposedly so good at but we never see on panel and find out that Brainiac or Lex or whatever is really behind the scenes manipulating everything. Use Detective Comics to show how the Question or Oracle is doing the groundwork to set up Batman Inc. in various sites before Bruce shows up, or check in with our new "Batmen" now that they've been recruited. Basically use those books like a bonus feature; something well written, that will add to the story, but not be NECESSARY for people who don't want to buy another book every week/month/whatever, and by using more of a rotating cast, you don't need to follow the same character in the same situation every issue, and therefore put pressure on the writer to burden a boring character with the need to be exciting. Almost like a series of stand alone issues and miniserieses.
