Little and Large filter of vision.
It is nice to see the Roots of "Comics" healthy with writers like Tony Millionaire, his Sock Monkey Sequential art stories are funny and good spirited, exactly what "Comics" were about when they first got popular. The major difference with this and a classic comic, is that Millionaire understands the power of Sequential art and has a dual narrative, one story told on the left with a small plain panel in Black and white and then a bigger panel, in color and details on the left.
I love the dual narrative because it tells two stories of the same tree at one time. The smaller left side panel is our world, plain and mundane. The Larger and more vibrant panel on the left gives life to the things we overlook. The Spider for example is personified with the imagination a child would have. The spider has a personality and a life.
This book is about perception and I love the filter Tony Millionaire uses. Every adult could use the imagination of a child once in a while. Filtering vision is different then escapism, to escape is to flee life, to filter vision is to see the world a little different. So I would recommend this book to anyone, but it does make it easier reading it with a child.
Cheers.
