Linda Danvers merged with Matrix (Supergirl) and became a hero. After separation from Matrix, she became a hero in her right; it was only a severe personal tragedy that forced her to quit. Edit

History

Linda Danvers is the daughter of a policeman, Fred Danvers, and his wife, Sylvia.

Rebirth

Her boyfriend, Buzz, was actually a demon and had lured her into many illicit activities.  Buzz planned to use Linda as a sacrifice in a demonic cult.  If not for the timely intervention of Supergirl (Matrix), she would have died.  Buzz slashed her wrists and Matrix tried to use her shape shifting abilities to heal Linda's wounds.  This failed but resulted in the two bonding saving Linda’s life.

Being Supergirl

New Identity

Linda gained vast abilities as Supergirl and no one suspected she was Linda, because Linda was a short brunette whereas Supergirl was a tall blonde.  Linda dedicated herself to fighting crime and demonic activity to make up for her past misdeeds.  This was a confusing and eventful time for Linda; even more confusing however was the revelation that Matrix had become an Earth-Born Angel after rescuing Linda.

Being an Earth-Born Angel

Earth Born Angel

When Linda became an Earth-Born Angel, she developed wings of fire and flame vision.  She discovered that she could “shunt” (teleport) in a S-shaped burst of flame.  She used her powers to fight demons and dark gods, and even a fellow Earth-Born Angel, Blithe.  Supergirl later fought a being known as the Carnivore.  During the battle, Matrix and Linda ripped apart.  Linda was alone again.  She still had powers, but a lower level than she had when bonded with Matrix.

Another new start

After a long search, Linda found Matrix in the Amazon as a prisoner of the Demon Queen Lilith.  Twilight, a New God blackmailed by the Demon Queen because she had her sister Jane as her prisoner, guarded Matrix.  Linda fought Twilight but in the tussle managed to rescue Jane.  Twilight joined Linda and the two fought Lilith and rescued Matrix.  During the battle, Twilight was fatally injured.  Linda told Matrix to fuse with Twilight and save Twilight as she had saved Linda before.  Matrix/Twilight as the Angel of Fire then restored Linda's powers and she now possessed the same power levels she had while bonded to Matrix, minus her Earth Angel abilities.

Meeting Kara Zor-El

Supergirl meets Supergirl?

When Linda Danvers arrives back in her hometown of Leesburg just as she is settling back in with her parents, they see something hurtling towards the center of town.  Linda checks it out as Supergirl only to find another Supergirl.  This Supergirl says she is Kara Zor-El.  This so called new Supergirl claims to be a Kryptonian.  Linda is not sure whether to believe her or not and as a result yells at the girl causing her to flee.  Meanwhile, there is a villain called Xenon who has a vendetta against all Supergirls from all worlds because one imprisoned him at the dawn of time.  Since then, Linda found Kara trying to push the world out of orbit so a meteor would not crash into it.  Linda explains why she should not along with Superboy (Conner Kent) so she stops but soon enough she hears more distress at a parade.  Mr. Mxyzptlk was causing havoc and Kara was trying to stop him; as a result, she is temporarily powerless and saved by Superman.  When she tries to explain who she is to him, he interrupts and tells her not to get involved thinking she was a crazed fan.  Kara became distraught and taken to S.T.A.R. Labs by Linda and Superboy to find out if she was Kryptonian.  During this time, she said she hated Earth.  The results were that she was a different 'breed' of Kryptonian but Kryptonian nonetheless.  After this, Kara stays at Linda's house and Linda decides to enroll Kara in the school she is working.  Eventually, they have an encounter with The Spectre who says Kara needed to die saving the world.  Kara really did not want to die and Linda could see that so she sent Kara away and went herself.  Kara was once again distraught but this time it was guilt about Linda.

Mrs. Superman

The Wedding
Linda arrived at the feet of Superman on Earth-One.  He asked her who she was.  She came up with an elaborate, crazy story that made no sense at all but weirdly enough he believed her.  They had many adventures and Linda had been there three years doing what Kara would have done.  Eventually, Superman catches on with the blonde wig and earth materials costume.  Love blooms and they get married.  Eight years have passed and the Supers had a daughter, Ariella, when in actual reality mere hours have gone by.

The Sacrifice

Linda knocks Kara out
...and is forced to send her to die
Linda had been confronted by The Spectre saying that it was not going to work with Linda dying instead of Kara so Linda made a deal: her daughter survives or no one does.  Linda transports to Xenon’s palace and begins to fight and eventually wins and kills him.  Then Linda and Kara are suddenly at the sight of the rocket; they both know what is going on and Kara asks how they can save the world without her having to die.  Linda says something like, "Don't worry.  I have a plan; do you trust me?"  Kara says, "With my life."  Linda says, "Okay, listen carefully, now here's what you have to do--" then knocks Kara out and puts her in the rocket.  Once there, Kara has no recollection of what happened; at best faint memories.  She decides to call herself Linda Lee.

Retirement

Linda retired after this incident, unable to look herself in the mirror after what she had done to Kara. The Spectre saved Ariella but never brought her to Linda. Linda had one last reunion with her family and met her new baby brother "Wally" before leaving everyone and giving up the identity of Supergirl. She sent a letter to Lois and Clark Kent saying that she no longer felt worthy of being Supergirl after what had happened.
