How did Lex get the scars on his face in the New 52?

well they probably haven't shown yet. He doesn't have them in Unchained, and he didn't have them when he was shown in that super prison in action comics, so I'm going to assume that we'll see in some story that's still set in the past.

or they'll just ditch them all together. He doesn't need scars like a James Bond villain, he's Lex Luthor for crying out loud.

Actually wasn't his baldness originally thought to be superman's fault and so that was why he hated him? Bald isn't monstrous anymore, in fact pretty vogue. If they still want him to have some physical reminder of why to hate superman. I don't think it's really necessary, just tossing it out there

if by "originally" you mean "20 years after he was created" then yeah sure.
