Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. Lex Luthor is a great character. Whether you love him or hate him (or love to hate him), he always spices things up. If you've been buying the DC New 52 action figures, you might have some of the villains that have been released. There's no way you can have DC action figures and not have the Lex Luthor Deluxe Action Figure from DC Collectibles.
It's a big action figure in a big box. He stands at about 8.5 inches compared to the average 6.75 inches of the other figures. The original retail price was $49.95 but DC currently has it for $39.99 in their online shop.
We looked at some of Lex's different looks over the years back in May. One that has always stood out was his battle or "warsuit."
Because it's Lex Luthor, of course he wants to be able to show off his face. It's a little funny but he has this little smirk going on. And because it's a warsuit, he does have a helmet to protect that smug face when he's battling Superman.
You can also see the detail in the armor. The hoses are rubbery so they have some give to them over harder plastic ones.
Another bit of detail I like is the fact they gave it a battle-damaged feel. Sure Lex could go out and buy a bunch of brand new warsuits. This one looks like he has gone up against Superman or someone else.
The suit also has a jetpack and wings that snaps onto his back. You have a choice of it being on or off.
DC Collectibles does a nice job with the scale of their figures. There's a reason this is such a big figure. It has to match the look of this particular suit Lex used to wear. Putting it up against a regular one gives you an idea of the size.
Let us not forget that Lex sometimes has Kryptonite in his armor to use against Superman.
Also in May, we looked at the Thrasher Suit Batman armor figure. Here you can see them side by side.
The Lex figure has over 20 points of articulation. It's not as much as the Batman figure; there's no finger articulation, but it's still pretty massive and cool. The arms and wrists can rotate and it can stand pretty well on its own.
You can also see how the figures compare to the Darkseid figure from 2012.
If you have some of the other figures, you really need to add this to your collection. It is a little pricey but the regular DC figures (and most others) tend to sell for $20-$25. This figure has been out for a little while so it won't be available for ever. Once it sells out, you'll have to search other places like eBay.
