Lelouch is the former Prince of the Britannian empire. After his mother died and his sister, Nunnally, was paralyzed, Lelouch devoted his life to defending Nunnally and finding his mother's killer. Edit

Exile and the Invasion of Japan

Lelouch was born as Lelouch El Britannia on December 5, 1999 a.t.b. to Marianne Vi Britannia and the Emperor of Britannia. Three years after he was born, his mother became pregnant with another child, and she was named Nunnally. Lelouch lived with Nunnally and his mother in relative peace, but that peace would not last.

One day, when the security was shut off, assassins broke into the home, and began firing on Marianne and Nunnally (Lelouch was not at home at the time.) Marianne put herself in between Nunnally and the shooters, and was killed instantly. Nunnally did not escape unscathed either, losing the ability to use her legs or eyes.

When Lelouch returned home, he was horrified to find the bodies, and he became horrified. He would eventually be driven to speak with his father, and in the confrontation, Lelouch accused his father of not leaving his mother protected, and declared that he did not need to become a successor. In response to his son’s accusations, the Emperor of Britannia disowned Lelouch, and the former prince was banished to Japan.

In Japan, Lelouch was taken in by the Kururugi family, and he met Suzaku Kururugi, and though he didn’t get along with the other child at first, the two eventually became best friends. As they played one day, they began to climb a hill, and though Suzaku climbs it with ease, Lelouch has a bit of trouble scaling the side of the hill, and Suzaku reaches down and helps him up. When they reach the top of the hill, they hear a strange chirping coming from the cicadas, and looking up towards the mountains, they see, to their horror, thousands of Britannian war ships, and in a sweep, Japan had been conquered by Britannia’s advanced army, and is renamed Area Eleven, and the Japanese are given the name Elevens. After seeing the destruction that Britannia had caused on Japan, as well as remembering the pain they had caused Lelouch in the past, Lelouch vowed to destroy The Empire of Britannia and it’s emperor.

The Geass

After the invasion of Japan, Lelouch was able to escape the Britannian army with Nunnally and began living with the Ashford Family, who had been supporters of his mother. He became enrolled in the Ashford Academy under the name of Lelouch Lamperouge, and became one of their most intelligent students, though his grades were low because of his laziness. He became well known for his skills in the game of chess (Only having ever been beaten by one person, his brother Schneizel, and this was before he had gone to Japan.)

Seven Years after the invasion of Japan, Lelouch was at an area where people were gambling on games of chess. He took over the game against a noble in which his proxy, an old man, had just about lost. Lelouch could only have twenty seconds to think about his move (as the old man run out of time.) The position the old man had gotten into was also a very horrible one, and there was almost no chance that Lelouch could win. Despite such horrible odds, Lelouch tells his friend, Leval, that he will finish the game in nine minutes at least, and he moves his king. The moving of his king amuses the noble, who finds it as suicide, but, in eight minutes and thirty-two seconds, the noble discovers himself beaten by Lelouch, who take the money from the game and leaves the building. As they leave, a message from Prince Clovis, the district commissioner of Area 11, comes over the television, and Lelouch and Leval watch as Clovis tells of the war tearing Clovis’s heart in two, and how he only wishes the best for the Elevens. Knowing that Clovis is only saying what the people want to hear, he pays no mind to it, and when a moment of silence is announced for the eight Britannian citizens and the 50 others killed in a terrorist attack, he and Leval do not participate. Leval states his reason as finding it too embarrassing, and Lelouch states that “no matter how much they cry, the dead will not come back to life. Leval laughed at this statement, saying how cynical it sounded, and the two then get into a motorcycle and leave.

As the two are driving, Leval asks Lelouch why he moved the king first, and Lelouch tells Leval that if the king does not lead the charge, his troops will have nothing to follow. Then, as they drive, a truck comes up behind them at high speeds. Leval is unable to get out of the way fast enough, and the driver of the truck swerves out of the way, crashing through a fence into an abandoned building. Leval and Lelouch stop and run over to look at the truck, and as they look at it, Lelouch sees a strange light above the truck, but in a second, it’s gone.

Drawn by the strange light and the worry for the passengers inside, Lelouch runs up to the truck, and climbs it in hope that he can get the driver out. When he gets to the top of the truck, a strange voice says that it has finally found him, confusing Lelouch. Just then, the truck goes into reverse, and Lelouch falls into the cargo bay of the truck. He looks up and sees that the only other thing in the cargo bay is a strange spherical object.

Stuck in a terrorist truck, sitting next to poisonous gas, and having a helicopter fire at you. Not a good day

Outside of the truck, a helicopter flies after the vehicle, and begins firing on it. Lelouch, wondering what is going on, hears the door to the cargo section opening, and he hides, seeing a woman walking out into the bay. She reaches a door, and enters, to Lelouch’s shock, a Knightmare Frame. The Knightmare frame leaves the truck and attacks the helicopters.

After a few minutes, the truck is attacked by a Knightmare Frame, and the driver drives it into a tunnel before crashing it. A Britannian soldier, sent to look for the truck, finds Lelouch, and goes to capture him. Attacking Lelouch, Lelouch screams “I will destroy Britannia!” as the two fight. Suddenly, the soldier stops fighting, and reaches up, taking off his helmet to reveal that he is Suzaku, Lelouch’s childhood friend. Lelouch stands shocked, when the object next to him unlocks itself. Suzaku, having been told that it is full of poisonous gas, grabs Lelouch and pulls him down, but instead of a dangerous gas escaping the object, a beautiful girl falls out, Shocking both boys.

More Britannian soldiers arrive on the scene, and one of them hands Suzaku a gun, telling him to shoot the terrorist, referring to Lelouch. Suzaku refuses, trying to tell the man that Lelouch isn’t a part of the terrorist organization, and that he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The man responds with a bullet in Suzaku’s back, and He falls down, to the horror of Lelouch. Just then, the truck behind them that had been carrying the girl explodes, caused by the man inside the truck pressing a detonation button. Lelouch uses this as a chance to escape.

Lelouch begins following a tunnel, and as the girl wakes up, he blames Suzaku’s being shot on her, but his angry rant is cut short when they reach an opening with a stair well. He two people climb the stairs, and Lelouch quietly looks out of the top from the top of the stairs.

He finds, to his disgust, many different Elevens being killed by Britannian soldiers. As the Britannian Soldiers are about to leave, Lelouch gets a call on his cell phone, and, even though he drops the call, the Soldiers have already noticed him. The commander is the same one as the one who shot Suzaku, and this time he turns his gun on Lelouch, shooting at the boy. The girl gets in the way though, and takes a bullet to her forehead.

Shocked at the girls saving him, he kneels down next to her, when suddenly, her limp hand suddenly comes to life, grabbing Lelouch’s wrist. Lelouch suddenly goes through a series of visions, and the girl offers the Ashford Academy student a contract for the power to take his revenge, and Lelouch accepts.

The appearance of the Geass
Lelouch, back in the warehouse where he is about to be shot, stands up, covering his left eye, and, lifting his hand, reveals his eye, transformed by the girl into a Geass. All of the men then become trapped under its spell, and Lelouch orders all of them to kill themselves, and, with the sound of many pulling triggers, all of them fall to the ground in a bloody heap. Lelouch then lets out a smile at his new found power.

The Road to Clovis

After Lelouch had murdered the men after him, he began contemplating why the girl had given him such special powers. As he was contemplating, a Knightmare Frame blows up the wall opposite him and blows open the opposite wall of the warehouse, and a woman, after seeing the horrible destruction and slaughter of her men, asks Lelouch what has happened from her Knightmare Frame. She fires at him, causing an outline of Lelouch to appear on the wall of the warehouse behind him. Lelouch then attempts to use his Geass to get her out of the Knightmare Frame, but she was unaffected by his command, and he, realizing that the Geass does not work without direct eye contact, and he tells her that his name is Alan Spacer, a son of a Duke, and asks her to come out and confirm his identity. She takes the bait, and comes out of her Knightmare Frame, and, in an instance, Lelouch had ordered her to give him her Knightmare Frame, and he was gone before she recovered.

After Hijacking the Knightmare Frame, Lelouch proceed to call his fellow classmate, Shirley, and asked her what the Report on Shinjuku was. She informs him that there is a reported traffic jam, and when he asks what the reason is, he is informed that no reason has been given. With this, Lelouch realizes that the military is going to keep the attack a secret until they can find a way to draw the blame from themselves and onto their scapegoats, the terrorists.

As Lelouch contemplates this, he notices on his Knightmare's screen a chess board still in tact after the destruction of the house where it used to reside, and he picks it up, preparing for a strike against Britannia.

As he prepares for his strike, he hacks into the enemy’s location using the transmitter from his Knightmare. He is able to conclude that, since the operation is secret, they will not be able to call in any more troops, and decides to side with the terrorists so that he may make his escape, and so that he may speak to Prince Clovis over the murder of his mother.

To gain the Terrorist's trust, he hacks into their communications array, and contacts the person who had been piloting the Knightmare Frame from the truck. At the moment he had contacted her, she was being chased by two other Knightmare Frames, and he quickly orders her to head towards the Western Exit of Shinjuku. When the girl inquires about his identity, he tells her that it doesn't matter, and that if she wants to win, she will get to the Western Exit. This convinces her, as she has nothing to lose, and she gets to the railroad tracks leading to the Western Exit. Having used his transmitter to locate a train filled with Knightmare Frames on the railroad tracks the girl was on, he tells her to jump onto the train, which she does. One of the Knightmare Frames pursuing the girl is stopped by the train, and the other one attempted to jump onto the train, only for Lelouch to destroy it with his Knightmare, and using his gun, destroys the other Knightmare's legs. As the other Knightmare is about to shoot on him, the girl attacks him, destroying the Frame, though he is able to eject before hand.

After his quick ambush of the two Sutherlands (the Knightmare Frames), Lelouch contacts the leader of the Terrorists, and tells him that all the cargo in the train is a present to them. They open it to discover the shipment of Knightmare Frames, but he tells the girl that she should not take one of the Sutherlands, as they do not fit her style, and that she should get a new battery for her Knightmare Frame.

As soon as the terrorists are all suited up, Lelouch tells them to prepare to attack, referring to them by a letter followed by a number, each referring to a chess piece (P-Pawn, N-Knight, Q-Queen, etc.) Using his superior Strategy skills, Lelouch begins a series of counterstrikes against the enemy, and soon, the odds are turned in favor of the terrorists.

In a desperate maneuver to win, Clovis orders all of his Knightmare Frames to advance to the center of the Terrorist’s formation, as a way to create a makeshift guard allowing them to fire in any direction, as well as surrounding the terrorist’s formation in a hope to destroy them. Lelouch, smiling happily, notes how horrible of a maneuver this order is, and quickly contacts Q-1 (the girl he saved earlier.) He asks her if she believes that the map he is looking at is accurate, and when she gives conformation, he smiles victoriously as he orders all of his men to move underground, allowing them to escape from being surrounded, and, moving forward one of his chess pieces, noting that this move makes check as he orders Q-1 to destroy the underground tunnel, causing all of Clovis’s men to fall into the crater the maneuver had created, destroying an abundance of their force. Watching as the entire enemy Knightmare Frame army was destroyed in the collapse, Lelouch lets out a hysteric laugh at his eminent victory.

As Lelouch contemplates his victory, he gets a call from B-unit, being informed that an enemy Knightmare Frame had been sighted, and, in a flash, had destroyed four of the terrorist’s men, though all of them had been able to eject before their Knightmare exploded. When Lelouch asks on the number of reinforcements he is shocked at the number… one new enemy unit. The man he is talking too is suddenly cut short, and Lelouch quickly contacted another unit, only for them to be cut off after he had heard that the enemy Frame could deflect their bullets. As Lelouch attempts to come up with a strategy against his new foe, he begins losing more ground as it advanced.

As Lelouch continues to wonder what is happening, he hears the sound of collision below him, and the next moment, a white Knightmare Frame appears before him, and attacks with a quick jab. He attempts to block the strike, but, even though he effectively blocked the punch, he begins being pushed back, and, as the two struggle, the ground underneath them gives way, and they fall to the bottom of the building. As Lelouch recovers from the fall, the white Knightmare Frame had already jumped into the air, preparing to defeat Lelouch with a kick. Lelouch blocks the kick at the last minute, and he is thrown to the ground by the force of the blow. As the white Knightmare Frame is about to kill Lelouch, Q-1 appears, blocking the attack, telling Lelouch that they are now even. Just then, the white Knightmare destroys Q-1, and she is forced to eject.

Lelouch then begins to run away from the white Knightmare Frame, but it began running after him. Lelouch then fired at buildings above the oncoming Frame, but the Frame dodged quickly and easily. Lelouch, frightened at the agility of the Knightmare, but the Knightmare quickly turned, saving a falling Eleven before she hit the ground. Lelouch takes this chance to escape, and moves towards Clovis.

Using the Geass, Lelouch infiltrated Clovis’s main base and comes up to Clovis. Then, at gun point, he orders Clovis at gun point to order all of his men retreat.

Lelouch with a gun to Clovis's head
After that, Lelouch uses the power of his Geass to ask Clovis about what had happened to his mother, and Clovis tells him that Schneizel and Cornelia might know something. Lelouch then proceeds to shoot Clovis in the head, making Clovis the first person to ever be killed by Lelouch's hand.

Kallen Stradfeld

The day after Lelouch had fought in the Shinjuku Incident, he returns to the Ashford Academy and the student council as they plan for the next semester’s budget. When he, Leval, and Shirley continue to work, Milly Ashford, the leader of the Student Council, shouts the word “Guts” at them, saying that it is a spell to make them work harder. Though Lelouch and Leval pass this “spell” of as stupid, Shirley says that it works on her, and Milly tells her how much she’s grown. When Shirley attempts to say it was all because of her, but Milly says that that is not what she meant, before looking down at her chest and smiling, saying “nice rack,” much to Shirley’s embarrassment.

As the Student council left the building, Shirley complained about Milly, calling her an old man at heart, but her angry rant was stopped as they passed two men watching the television about the incident in Shinjuku. It had been reported that terrorists had hijacked poisonous gas and had released it in Shinjuku. The television then went on to report that the poisonous gas had been cleaned up. People in the class then began talking nervously of the event, (Shinjuku was only 30 minutes away from where they lived, and a terrorist attack so close was a frightening prospect to them) and Shirley looks over at Lelouch, Asking him about it, since he had contacted her about it the day before. He told her that he had been on the phone talking to someone on the scene.

As the people became frightened as the bodies of the dead Elevens began flashing on screen, Lelouch began questioning why they weren’t reporting on Clovis’s death, and the thought of his murder sent him running to the bathroom as he through up in the toilet.

As he is washing out his mouth after his barfing fit, Lelouch come up with the theory that they are hiding the truth of Clovis’s death in hopes of hiding the true events in Shinjuku. He then smiles to himself, realizing just how much of blow he had dealt to Britannia.

As Lelouch goes to his next class, he hears many excited squeals from classmates, and, as he enters the classroom, he sees everyone huddled around a girl… Q-1.

Lelouch, getting a closer look at Q-1 realizes her identity, Kallen Stradfeld, a girl who has been absent for most of the school year, supposedly with a bad disease. As he sits down, Leval moves over to him, asking him why he is staring at Kallen. He then asks him if he is falling for her, and Lelouch replies that he finds it strange that she has been absent so many days.

After class, during the school’s lunch period, Kallen runs away from a bee, and when she believes no one is watching. She quickly kills the bee, saying how she wishes she hadn’t been reported as sick. Turning, she discovered Lelouch staring right at her, and, in a moment, he had her trapped in the Geass, asking her if she was the girl from before. She responds that she was, and Lelouch then asked her, and when he asked her why she fought, she told him that she fought because she was half Japanese. Finding this as adequate, he turned away, releasing her from the Geass. Then, remembering that he had to tell her that she should not speak of Shinjuku, turned back to her, and again used his Geass on her. When he told her not to tell anyone about Shinjuku, she became defensive, asking what he was talking about. Lelouch then ordered her to go back to class, but she refused, telling him to say what he meant by Shinjuku, and Lelouch realized that she was unaffected by the Geass. Just then, Shirley called to them from a window, warning them of chemistry next period. Lelouch used this as an excuse to leave, and Kallen watched suspiciously as he left.

That night, he returned home late, but he kept the promise he had made Nunnally, to eat dinner with her that night. At dinner, Nunnally tells her older brother how she was being taught origami by their maid, Sayoko, and in her excitement to tell Lelouch about what paper could be folded into, she let a bit of her soup drip down her mouth. Smiling, Lelouch stood and wiped the soup away with a napkin, telling her not to talk so fast, and then she shows him an origami crane, telling him that it is said that if you were to make one thousand cranes, your wish could come true. Nunnally then asks Lelouch what his wish is, but he brushes off the question, and asks her what her wish is. She tells him that she wishes the world could find peace, and Lelouch promises her that, by the time she can use her eyes, she will see a world of peace. Nunnally, happy at his statememnt, makes him do what she calls “an old Japanese promise.” Gripping Lelouch’s pinky with her own, she begins reciting:

“Cross my heart and hope to die. Stick a needle in my eye!”

Lelouch laughs at the saying, and asks if he really has to stick a needle in his eye, and Nunnally tells him that he does, so he better not break his promise. Lelouch smiles and says happily “That’s alright. I never lie,” adding in his mind “not to you, anyway.”

Early the next morning, Lelouch begins wondering about why the Geass had not worked on Kallen, and then, to make sure it still worked, took control of one of his teachers and asked him what the next prompt was, and he was told immediately. Then, he reactivated the Geass and asked his teacher the same question, only to be refused an answer this time. Smiling, he realizes that the Geass can only be used once on somebody. As he realizes this, he goes to his first class of the day, and notices Kallen acting suspicious towards him. He realizes then that he has to do something about her, and begins to formulate a plan.

That day, after class, Lelouch asks Kallen to come with him after class, to which she responds that she expected he would be asking her out soon (which gets a shocked look from Shirley, and a squeal from all the other girls present.) Lelouch takes Kallen into the Ashford Academy Student Council building, expecting he would be able to talk with her privately there. To his shock though, every other member of the Student Council is there, and Lelouch discovers that Kallen is actually to become a member of the Student Council. After a set up done by Milly, and the placing of some snacks brought out by Nunnally, Leval reveals a bottle of champagne to everyone present. Shirley, shocked that Leval would even think of drinking, attempts to get the bottle away from him, and in an attempt to keep the champagne, he passes it to Lelouch, who is then tackled by Shirley. The build up of gas in the champagne bottle causes its cork to rocket off at Kallen, and though she deflects the projectile, she is unable to deflect the alcoholic liquid that quickly followed, drenching her.

After the Champagne incident, Kallen is shown upstairs, where she make take a shower to get off the sticky liquid. Lelouch is told to get her some clothes, and he quickly picks out some of his before bringing them to her. When he reaches the bathroom door, he knocks, and after identifying who he was and what he was doing, he is told to come in. He enters to find Kallen hidden behind a shower curtain, and he leaves the clothes on the counter. When Kallen inquires at how he got the clothes so fast from the boy’s dorm, he tells her that he doesn’t live there, and actually live in the Student Council Building. He then is about to leave, when she asks him if he can bring her the tiny pink coin purse she always carries around with her. As he hands her the purse, she grabs his wrist, and he hears the sound of a blade being opened up. (the purse he had given her was not actually a purse, but a concealed blade.) She asks him what he meant by Shinjuku, but before he can answer, the phone rings. He reaches over and answers the phone, after telling her that someone would come if it was not answered. After bringing the phone to his ear, he hands it to her, saying that it was for her. She puts down her knife and answers the phone, and with a shocked movement, turns, while the phone chord pulled the shower curtain open. She then lets him go, and he tells her he mentioned Shinjuku because if she said anything about it, it would cause mass questioning. He then says that maybe he should play sometime, and makes her believe that he thinks she was talking to someone she plays a computer game with. He then tells her that he can see her, and she quickly lets go of his hand and covers herself. Lelouch the walks out the door, and a smile crosses his lips as, in another room of the house, a hypnotized Sayoko puts down a recording of Lelouch talking to Kallen.

Awkward…

Kallen and Lelouch walk down to the main room together, but when they get there, they discover everyone surrounding the television, and they are told that Prince Clovis was dead. Then, to Lelouch’s horror, they announce the main suspect in the killing, a very alive Kururugi Suzaku.

Zero

That night, Lelouch takes Nunnally and tucks her in, and she expresses to him her worry over Suzaku. Then, quietly, Nunnally asks if it was a lie Suzaku had killed Clovis. Lelouch comforts her, and he is able to say with the up most certainty that Suzaku wasn’t the one who had killed Clovis.

Using the Geass, Lelouch is able to get a detailed list of all the evidence against Suzaku, and is then able to erase all traces of it from the database. He then begins to formulate a plan that would liberate Suzaku.

After class, Leval asks Lelouch if he wants to do some gambling after school, much to Shirley’s chagrin, but Lelouch refuses the offer, saying that he has found something more enjoyable. At four o’clock that day, Lelouch left a communications device in the Tokyo Tower with Kallen name on it, having told her to be at the Tokyo tower at four o’clock. The lost and found then contacts Kallen, “returning” the stolen item to her. He then contacts the communications device from a new cell phone, with the name Zero programmed into the one that she had just received. He tells her to take the monorail loop. After she had boarded the monorail, Lelouch again contacts Kallen, asking her to look to her right, and to tell him what she sees. She tells him that she sees a Britannian city, filled with murders and robbers, and when he tells her to look left, she tells him that she sees a Japanese city, her city. Lelouch smiles, and tells her that she has given good answers, before telling her to come to the front car. Using his Geass, he was able to clear out the entire front car for himself, and Kallen and the other terrorists come in to discover Lelouch, clothes in a black cape and a helmet covering his face.

Turning towards the terrorists, Lelouch tells them that Britannia will not fall to the childish acts of terrorism, and when they respond harshly to being called childish, Lelouch tells them that Britannia is the enemy, and that involving the civilians is not a fight for justice. Kallen then tells him to stop messing with her, and that they couldn’t trust someone who hides his face behind a mask. All the other terrorists support her in this statement, and ask Lelouch to take of his mask. In response, Lelouch tells them that he will prove his power to them.

That night, the escort of Kururugi Suzaku to his trial is being broadcast to the whole nation of Area 11, and Zero decides to make his move then, for all the world to see. With only two people, Kallen and Ougi, the leader of the terrorists, he moves out with a truck he had stolen from one of Prince Clovis’s men, and, with Kallendriving the truck, they set out. The procession to the courthouse is being led by Jeremiah Gottwald, and Lelouch plans to use him to his advantage. As Clovis’s car approached the procession, they are told to reveal themselves, and Zero appears on the top of the car, introducing himself to Jeremiah as Zero. Jeremiah then surrounds the car with multiple Sutherlands, and when he is about to fire on the truck, Zero reveals the cartridge that had held the strange green-haired girl who had given him his Geass, and which everyone had been told was filled with poisonous gas. He then tells Jeremiah that he will give the capsule for Suzaku, but when Jeremiah says he can not hand over Prince Clovis’s killer, Zero laughs, telling the entire world that Kururugi Suzaku is innocent, and that he was the one who killed Prince Clovis. He then restates his offer of the “poisonous gas” for Suzaku, and when Jeremiah is about to try and shoot him, he calls him Orange, confusing everyone. He then orders Kallen to drive closer to Jeremiah, and she complies. As they move closer, a compartment in Lelouch’s helmet opens, revealing his Geass to Jeremiah, and he orders the man he had called orange to let him go, as well as Suzaku. Jeremiah, forced to comply by the Geass, allows them to go, and when others attempt to attack, Lelouch, he stops them, even becoming violent with them.

After the escape, Lelouch offers Suzaku a part in his army, but he refuses, and leaves, saying he will defeat Britannia in his own way.
