He is a telepath, telekinetic and pryrotic that for a long time had a multiple personality disorder from people he had accidentally absorbed into his psyche as a child. Each person controlled a different power. Legion went back in time to kill Magneto before he could develop his powers and hinder Professor X's progress towards mutant/human relations. Instead he killed his own father, setting into motion the event that created the alternate universe of Age of Apocalypse.
