In Syldavia near Lake Flechizoft is Professor Calculus, who has invited Tintin and Captain Haddock for a holiday. The plane in which Tintin and Haddock travel in an accident under mysterious circumstances. After being rescued by two small Syldavian finally come home from the teacher, who shows them his latest work: a machine capable of reproducing all the objects in three dimensions. The endless possibilities offered by such a discovery raises dangerous desires, particularly Rastapopoulos evil, the eternal enemy of Tintin, ready for anything to appropriate the ingenious invention.
