If you are a fan of Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise then today is a pretty significant day for you as it is the official release date of 'Tomb Raider' the highly anticipated relaunch of one of video games' most successful franchise. The game features a younger, more versatile Lara Croft who struggles to find herself and her place in a world that is more than a little bit scary. It's a fresh take on a character that many of us grew up with, focusing on her early years as an explorer who is just trying to survive. The anticipation and excitement revolving around this game led to some forward thinking on the part of Crystal Dynamics. Now that the character has been rebooted and given a fresh take in a new video game, perhaps it is time to revamp the character for the big screen as well?

According to Variety, Crystal Dynamics has been actively thinking of how to bring this new take on an old character to other forms of entertainment, like film, for example. Rather than simply licensing out Lara and her franchise, Crystal Dynamics has teamed up with GK Films to develop a new film version of the Tomb Raider films that will fall more in line with what they have done in the reboot of their franchise. The new game looks at Lara from a more "character driven" perspective, something that GK Films knows a thing or two about having produced films like The Departed and Hugo.

They are working from this new take that we’ve given them, Darrell Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamics said of GK Films. “It’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens…It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise…We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old ‘Tomb Raider’ films.

A fresh take would be good for Lara, and it is nice to see that the game developers are so invested in making a decent film, something that doesn't always happen when dealing with movies that start as video games first. I am impatiently waiting for my copy of the game to arrive today....really really excited to play it

I definitely have no qualms about having a grittier Tomb Raider movie reboot. It'd be interesting to see how Crystal Dynamics and GK Films translate this new take on Lara onto the big screen. Having Lara really go through the ringer to essentially transform her up into the icon we're all familiar with is something that would be great to see on film. I'm picking up the game later today after I get off work and I can't wait to play it.

Hopefully the movie does the character justice, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix did an outstanding job with the TR reboot. They gave Lara Croft justice.

The game is great and film would also be great!

I would be a huge fan of this idea as AJ was a horrible Lara Croft (movies made me pretty sick to my stomach). This series needs a reboot to help push the new direction the gaming world has taken Ms. Croft.

They need to doing something original for this reboot. lets cast Angelina Jolie *Straight face*

Wonder if they could get Camilla on-board and/or if she has physical acting chops.

I am a fan of her new, subdued, look. I found the first Tomb Raider movie to be so awful, and that wasn't just my dislike of Jolie showing through.

As far as who I think should play her in a reboot...gotta go with BROCK LESNAR! Kate Beckinsale or Keira Knightley.

Did you see Naomi Kyle dressed up (well, her face), with the body of Lara at IGN? I think it looks good. Somebody needs to pull Naomi Kyle off of IGN and make her do the Tomb Raider film.

The original film was pretty bad, so I say go for it.

Would be nice... Lets see how the game is first. I like the idea of starting it over... as I hate the hell out of the other movies... just dumb.

I know, typical answer but...her...don't know if the acting ability would be up to par but lets be honest...the look is there people. But I know..I know what you are all thinking "been there, done that" already. Still though...one can only wonder...

I don't think Hathaway could pull it off either. She doesn't have that adventurer look to her.
