    Character Creation

Lamprey was originally created as an entry in a contest in "The Amazing World of DC Comics", a fan magazine published by DC. She made her official debut in Amazing World of DC Comics #14. Lamprey was created by Scott Taylor, a Legion fan, in 1977.

    History

    Pre-Crisis

The young girl from the 30th century who would be come to be known as Lamprey started life as a normal Earth girl known as Tayla Skott. After her uncle performed less than legitimate experiments on her, she was anything but normal. Though the only goal of the experiment was to graft gills to a human being, Tayla had in addition bright green skin and the ability to store and project electricity. Wanting to use her powers for good, she tried out for the Legion of Super-Heroes.

During her tryouts she met Nightwind, Crystal Kid and Blok, other potential recruits at the event. When the Legion decided to have them wear their special flight rings and go out on a mission with them, it was to see their capacity on a field assignment. Thinking that the mission was only a test and not real, Lamprey, Nightwind and Crystal Kid were easily defeated by the villains known as the Starburst Bandits. Blok, however, stopped the criminals and also won membership into the Legion.

Lamprey, Crystal Kid and Nightwind trained with Wildfire. After Wildfire trounced them in a sparring match, he confided in the three his true tragic past. A past he had not shared with other members of the Legion. Lamprey grew to greatly admire Wildfire, and decided not to give up.

Lamprey applied to the Legion Academy along with her future best friend, Nightwind. Together they worked alongside their classmates, and over time Tayla seemed to develop a bit of a crush on the Legion Academy instructor, the Legionnaire Wildfire. Once, when Laurel Kent and Comet Queen were bad-mouthing Wildfire, both Lamprey and Nightwind attacked the two in defense of their mentor.

Lamprey participated in many training missions throughout her tenure at the Academy. One example was when she was part of the cleanup party of the Dominator base on Kathoon. She was also a Academy member was well as a part of the Legion Reserve, however she never actually achieved Legion membership during all her years as a student.

    5-Year gap

After the end of the magic Wars and the Great Collapse of the united Planets economy both the Legion of Super-Heroes and its supported training department the Legion Academy were forced to close. She did participate in training missions with the Academy for a short time until it officially closed its doors. After this Lamprey and some of the other long term former students decided to participate further alongside the United Planets Militia Academy.

Her former instructors at the Academy Lournu Durgo Taine, formally Dou Damsel, and her spouse Chuck Taine, the former Bouncing Boy, also became co-instructers in the United Planets Academy on the planet Xolnar. Lamprey would be asked to join the staff and soon became an instructor at the United Planets Militia Academy, teaching a new generation of galactic defenders.

Their charter was the training of officers and special forces of whom many of possessed superpowers themselves to fight off a new Khund invasion. Lamprey would accept the invitation along with her roommate/ bestfriend Berta who was formerly called Nightwind and their ex-classmate Jed Rikane whos former aka was Power Boy.

Unlike both her former classmates Lamprey did survive the brutal attack by the Khund empire on March 14, 2995. Both Berta and Jed, and countless others had perished from the war.

During a period when the new LSH had been framed for betraying the UP to the Khunds, Lamprey was part of an Academy team. They fought in a 3-way brawl with both Khunds and Legionnaires, and she acquitted herself well. Shortly thereafter, Lamprey and her entire timeline history were wiped out, by the chronal manipulations of the would be conquers the Time Trapper, Glorith and the sorcerer Mordu.

The experiment done on Tayla to see if it would be possible to give humans gills with which to breathe underwater worked, but it also gave her iridescent green skin and the ability to absorb, store and project ambient electricity or her own bio-electricity. Due to her mutations Lamprey is amphibious and is able to function normally on both land and or underwater. Her bio-electrical powers did originally function best underwater however through the 5-Year Gap timeline, she had learned how to use them efficiently both in and above water

By the time she becomes an instructor at the UP Militia Academy, she’s advanced her martial and military skills considerably. Lamprey is also familiar with the basic use of pace/air-vehicles common during 31th century Earth.

Lamprey is also allowed use of the Legion flight Ring as a student of the Academy. It also acts as a mini computer and gives its wearer communication and navigational capacities. The ring gives its wearer the ability to fly, the speed and range of which is determined by the wearer's willpower. It also acts as a long-range communicator (enabling constant vocal contact with other Legionnaires, even across vast distances of space), a signal device, and a navigational compass, all powered by a micro-computer built
