He is the product a plot hatched up by Kitty, the daughter of Killer Moth. Staging a kidnapping of Kitty, Kwiz Kid tricked the Titans (notably Robin) into going to the island to free her, much to Starfire's chagrin. When they arrived, the found a trap and Kwiz Kid's 'skills' weren't enough to keep him subdued. He disappeared from the island - a trick that was feasible as he never actually on the island and merely a hologram.
