    A great cover, a so-so issue
    A great cover, a so-so issue

The new creative team of Doug Moench and Alfredo 'Al-Kull-A' and Ed Hannigan, continue Kull's adventures as he attempts to raise an army and reclaim the Topaz Throne.

In this issue, Kull, now second in command of the Atlantean army, is sent by King Om-Ra as a spy aboard General Khornah's scouting mission in the waters around the island. There he discovers treachery both from Lemurians and a sorcerous third party.

One of the best things about this issue is the cover. Sadly, none of the contents inside quite live up to it. The Kraken is a standard Kull vs. monster battle, and the skeletons depicted in the lower right of the cover were a totally unnecessary addition, sent by the same sorcerer, but destroyed one panel after their appearance by the Kraken.

At one point Kull tries to save Khornah's life, though they are enemies, but nevertheless, Khornah still vows to kill Kull by issue's end.

The use of magic and dream-visions is really starting to get gratuitous. The skeletons are only one of several examples in this story. Such lazy writing does not bode well for the future of this title.
