Korak GK1
Russ Manning's artwork is outstanding. In addition to providing his usual fan service by being a walking shirtless scene, Korak becomes a dude in distress in both stories. In the first story, while returning a doll to a little girl, Korak underestimates an old woman's quickness. She grabs one of the fleeing jungle boy's legs as he is trying to escape and holds on until the rest of the tribe subdues him. He is tied up and left in a hut with the girl until Tarzan rescues them. In the second story, while investigating the disappearance of several young tribesmen, Korak confronts a group of suspicious hunters and their porters by himself. With nobody there to watch his back, the overconfident jungle boy s knocked unconscious by one of the porters, swinging a rifle butt to the back of his head. He is tied up, stuffed in a barrel, and transported to a mine to work as a slave. In both stories, Korak comes across as a handsome boy scout in a leopard-skin loincloth. He has a good heart that propels him into action, often impetuously. Fortunately, he has strength, agility, and intelligence to back it up. In the first story, he needs daddy to bail him out. In the second story, he rescues the tribesmen and defeats the kidnappers.
