Kodansha Comics USA was formed in 2008 and debuted with new editions of two titles previously held by Dark Horse Comics; Ghost in the Shell and Akira. Towards the end of 2010 Del Rey, a publisher that held translating rights to many of the Japanese Kodansha licenses, was shut down by its parent company Random House, all of the series's that they were translating and releasing were taken over by Kodansha Comics USA starting in 2011. All Kodansha Comics USA manga are distributed by Random House.

Also known as Kodansha Comics and Kodansha USA Publishing.

Another American subsidiary also exists called Kodansha USA but they produce mainly translated Japanese books/novels and how-to's.
