Free is good!
We picked this up at free comic book day and have neglected reading it. Why did we wait so long? My daughter loves it, we've had to read the Shrek side of the comic 3 times already.
This is a collection of stories from both Shrek and the Penguins of Madagascar.
The two stories from Shrek are Ferry Berry Fever and The Parent Trap.
In Ferry Berry Fever, Shrek and Donkey end up eating Ferry Berries and get a rash all over. They end up being quarantined in the castle. Of course you can imagine how well Shrek and Donkey get along together for the 24 hour quarantine.
In The Parent Trap, Shreks parents come for a visit and think Shrek has gone soft. Not teaching the kids how to be "proper Ogres". The story is spent with Shrek trying to prove to his parents he's "still got it".
My Daughter really likes the Parent Trap story. That's the one we've read over and over. What I like about the Shrek stories is the fact I can hear the characters (from the movies). They act and the same way in the comic that they do/did in the movies. The writers really stay on target with the characters. They are all done well.
The two stories on the Penguins side are Operation: Birthday Blowout and Rico's Remedy.
In Birthday Blowout, they are trying to hide a surprise b-day party from Private. The recruit other members of the zoo to keep him busy while they set up the party.
In Rico's Remedy, they need Rico to cough up a buzzsaw, but he's lost his ability. The rest of the story is spent trying to "fix" Rico.
Now, I must admit, I don't know a lot about the penguins. I've not watched the movie or seen any of the shows on tv with them in it. The story is cute, and a fun ready. Although, I'm kinda biased towards the Shrek stories. The penguin stories are silly, fun and right up a 6 year old's alley.
If you can still find a copy of this around, it's a good read for the younger crowd. I'd like to see Shrek as an ongoing series. Can we get that please??
