Just who IS this masked man?
Just who IS this masked man?

You know, it’s a while since BLADE and a bit too long since we’ve seen a superhero just wrecking a warehouse full of goons. As the hour draws nearer and nearer to KICK-ASS's release in a couple weeks, so too do the number of promo clips increase. Here we’ve got one of Nicholas “ Big Daddy” Cage giving a whole bunch of mafia thugs the hard goodbye and I have to say it looks very… BAD-ASS.

I find it kind of puzzling that Lionsgate has played down Cage’s involvement in this movie so much. He’s one of the biggest stars and box office draws, right now. You’d think they'd have plastered his name and face all over the posters and billboards for this thing, but no. The promos that DO have Big Daddy on them keep the mask on, so you really don’t know him from Adam. I wonder if this might have been a personal choice of Cage’s not to upstage the story or his co-stars. Or perhaps it’s another example of Millar and Vaughn doing the movie in the way they think is right, rather than kowtowing to market pressures? Search me.

Anyway, forget about all those business ruminations. Enjoy the clip. But do me a favor, Comic Vine community. I know we’ve got a throng of resourceful minds, here… so, can somebody tell me what the song in this clip is? I KNOW I’ve heard it before, but I can’t put my finger on it. I want to say it was used at the end of SMOKIN’ ACES or perhaps somewhere in MAN ON FIRE.   I demand the name of the band, the name of the track and all instances it’s been used before, and I DEMAND IT NOW!

That was just cool. It was kinda like the scene in Watchmen where Silk Spectre and Nite-Owl beat up those muggers in the alley.
Even though Iiked Ghost Rider, I think Nicholas Cage would be a better Big Daddy.

Yeah, I've seen the film twice in a week since it was released here in the UK. It's awesome, I love it.

Not one of my favourite parts but it was still good. I think it's the song (Thanks @AngelFrost for finally telling me what that song is, it's been bothering me for years), they always use it in soaps when there's a build up to something dramatic happening. Kind of spoilt it for me.
I think the reason why they've downplayed Cage's involvement is because 'Nicolas Cage' is synonymous with 'really awful movies'. I don't know what he was doing in this film to begin with. Definitely ruined the experience for me.

After seeing this clip - I might actually give this movie a shot. Grant it I haven't been too crazy about this movie, but I won't avoid it like I've had with the Catwoman movie.

Elektra had a very impressive run in one comic, all highly armed men and she killed them in under a min, I can't remember the comic but I will get back to you on it. XD

What makes Batman so much better than this parody of him is that he can do all that without having to kill a single one.

So is Cage still a lousy actor in this movie?   I actually liked his performance in the trailers where he shoots Hitgirl in the chest and where Hitgirl pretends to want puppies for her birthday.   I was hoping he might have actually found a role that he's good at for once.

People going in to see the movie, who have no idea about the comic, will be shocked to see how bloody it is.  The commercials make the violence seem way toned down.

@Golden Cod: Half the time it's hard to tell if he's trying to be funny, or if he's just awful. Also there's a hilarious bit at the end (in a context that is no way supposed to be hilarious). So yeah, he's pretty bad.

It seems a lot of films lately have been fizzling out at the end like that. I can understand that sometimes one knows how to start with a bang and yet wrapping it up is difficult. If only it could happen less often though...

This is a different idea than Batman.
We're being asked to believe Kick Ass is set in a more real world than Gotham city.
We all know one in the real world could do what Batman does so Big Daddy kills.

Yes thats what's unrealistic, an 11 year old girl fighting bigger tougher mob criminals is not something that is ever gonna happen in real life.  Plus I dont see how the creator of this comic could put an 11 year old girl and make her look like a mass murderer. That is really sick in a bad way.

    Ummm...okay.  So I'm guessing that...

Well, it's just that there is someone in that clip that I don't think is supposed to have stuff revealed until later in the series...and possibly the movie?

Having him in the clip may not be apparent to those who haven't read the book (including me), but then again, I read the entire synopsis of this story, and it seems like that's a plot point/twist that ends up coming a little later in the series...

    Nonetheless...not bloody enough...but good.

*EDIT*  Spoiler warnings are glitched, so I wasn't able to put what I really wanted to say.  Anyone curious...or anyone who has seen the movie and is wondering what I mean, just PM me.
