Kick-Ass # 4 - Issue Four

Millar and John Romita Jr. ask us to suspend our disbelief for this entire series, but this issue they are asking a whole lot. In essense, the events in this issue could never happen in real life. A 10 year old girl is unlikely to be able to move and to fight the way Hit girl does here.  At least the Italian mobsters, as cliched as they are follow some sense of realistic portrayal, even if they are typical of stereotyped minorities. Still, this issue is awesome, it's very bloody and very violent in keeping with the tone of the entire comic but just when you think that the creators could not possible sustain the storyline, along comes a great twist. Hit girl and Big Daddy are a great twist. Who are they? Does Kick Ass know them? Have  they crossed paths before in the civilian world? There are other great elements to this comic. The growing number of every day Joes who are inspired by Kick ass to join the ranks of superheroes, even if they have no powers, or even motivation beyond trying the lifestyle on for size.  Then of course, there are those great visuals. My God, has J.Romita Jr been any better? His visuals practicallly leap of the page they are so good and so vivid. In closing, this is a great comic book, one of Marvel's best. If you love comics, then you have to be picking this one up.
