    The Mark of Khorne
    The Mark of Khorne

Khorne is considered the mightiest of all Chaos Gods due to the state of constant strife and conflict in the Universe powering him up. He was the second Chaos God to come into existence after Nurgle, sometimes during the European Middle Ages in the Second Millennium. He is the embodiment of hate, rage, wrath, violence and the urge to kill, but he is also comprised of martial pride, courage, the will to protect others, and honor. Khorne is described as an impossibly huge and muscular warrior clad in bronze armor and wielding a huge waraxe, sometimes portrayed with the head of a monstrous horn-sprouting wolf. His daemons are similarly brutal, beings of blood-slicked sinews, fanged maws, scales or bristly hair, and curling horns. While the other gods and their daemons are content to use psychic sorcery or other trickery to win their battles, Khorne and his minions exist only to hack and tear their foes apart in close combat, and are unmatched in that arena. Khorne's sacred number is 8, and the Chaos Space Marines of the World Eaters continue to offer skulls and blood in his name.

Khorne frowns upon the use of sorcery and trickery, particularly from followers of Tzeentch, for their unwillingness to engage in far and honorable combat. Khorne only permits sorcery so long as you're not using it to fight his battles for you, so enchanted weapons and armor are acceptable, as is summoning his daemons to participate in a battle. But using magic to slay your enemies rather than your own hands is an unacceptable sign of weakness, so not only does Khorne not have a list of spells, but taking the Mark of Khorne prevents a character from using any sorcery. He is also fundamentally opposed to Slaanesh. Khorne's dogma teaches the spilling of blood for its own sake, while the violence inflicted by Slaanesh's followers is done simply for their own amusement.

Khorne has an immense following among mortals, especially humans, as his radiance of raw power and strong emotion beckons all who lust for battle and power over their fellows to his side. Khorne has no temple of worship except the battlefield, his only sacrament is blood and more blood. His followers also offer him praise and attempt to win his favor by savagely attacking each other when there are no other battles to be fought -- and sometimes even when there are. It is said that Khorne is the easiest Chaos God to worship, because while worship of most of the other Gods requires rituals, altars, and sacrifices, Khorne's demands are simply that his followers spill fresh blood and collect skulls in his name. Consciously or not, all warrior cultures pay homage to him with their acts of murder and destruction. Every single life taken in anger increases the Blood God's power. He looks well upon those warriors who slay their friends and allies, for they prove their understanding of a greater truth -- Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows, only that it flows. Friends or enemies, all the dead are equal in the eyes of the Lord of Battle.
