Background:
Katma Tui, Green Lantern of the planet Korugar. She replaced Sinestro as Sector 1417's native Green Lantern. Sinestro had used his Green Lantern powers to enslave his planet, and rule over them as a tyrant. Tui eventually led a rebellion against Sinestro, and even testified against him before the Guardians of the Universe, who imprisoned Sinestro in the anti-matter universe, on the planet Qward. Tomar-Re nominated Tui as Sinestro’s replacement as Green Lantern of Sector 1417, and Tui accepted. The people of Korugar, however, viewed the Green Lantern symbol as an evil symbol, and saw Tui as a monster for joining them. Tui was known by her people as “Katma Tui the Lost.”
Katma Tui served the Green Lantern Corps for many years and, when Hal Jordan quit the Corps, Katma Tui was assigned to mentor his replacement John Stewart. The two Lanterns quickly fell in love over the course of many shared adventures, and after a short courtship, John asked Katma to marry him. When the Central Power Battery was destroyed, as a result of the default program triggered by Sinestro's "execution", the now depowered Katma settled on Earth with John. Their happiness was soon shattered when Star Sapphire attacked and killed Katma in the kitchen of her own home, brutally slicing the former Lantern thousands of times with her blade. Her loss was one of the greatest the Corps had endured. Katma Tui is honored amongst the Fallen Lanterns within the Crypts of Oa. Recently, Katma has been risen as a member of the Black Lantern Corps.
