Katana
Katana is a comic book character that first appeared in The Brave and The Bold #200
A superb samurai, Katana uses her sword, The Soultaker, to fight evil. The sword contains the souls of every person killed by it and Katana can communicate with those souls. She is a long time member of the Outsiders, and serves on the current incarnation of the team.
Mistress of the art of combat
History
Tatsu Yamashiro was an ordinary Japanese girl save for her impressive skills in martial arts. She was loved by two brothers, she liked both but she chose one, Maseo Yamashiro. The other brother, Takeo, refused to attend their wedding. He joined the Yakuza, a Japanese criminal organization and received a large dragon tattoo on his chest to signify this. This led to his disownment by his family.
The Soultaker, deadly sword of Katana
After watching her house burn down, Tatsu began training as a samurai. Graduating from her training she set off for America. She took the name Katana, and started her life as a vigilante.
The Outsiders
Before Infinite Crisis Tatsu was a member of the original Outsiders created by Batman, then helping the original Outsiders against Sabbac because her soulsword can pierce his skin. Sabacc overcomes her with the sin of envy and she slices Shift in two shouting that they are posers of the Outsiders.
Not one for giggles, Katana joins the new Batman and the Outsiders
One Year Later
Katana is still a member of Nightwing's Outsiders. She and the rest of the Outsiders were part of an infiltration mission in Mali. She was one of the first to fight the Brotherhood of Evil's clones of superheroes. Her ruthlessness was proved again when she dropped Phobia from a building when threatened. When Tatsu and the rest of the Outsiders fought with the Brotherhood within their base, she was the only one who escaped. She was aided by a small portion of Metamorpho in freeing the Outsiders. They soon found a clone of Superman which was pretty much just a copy of Bizarro.
The Outsiders were then blamed for the nuclear explosion Doctor Sivana set off. Soon after this the Outsiders are captured one by one by Checkmate operatives so they attack Oolong Island. Katana is assigned to stay and guard the ship with Count Vertigo and Metamorpho where she admits it is taking all her restraint not to slit Count Vertigo's throat.
Batman and The Outsiders
During the five of a kind storyline Katana plunges the soultaker into her chest entering the soultaker's world where she teams up with Shazam (Billy Batson) to help free the soultakers world from a warlord. She makes Batman's team and has been seen on their recent missions. She appears to have respect for Batgirl when she defends Cassandra against Green Arrow.
