Karui Akimichi

Origin

Samui is a female ninja from Kumogakure and member Team Samui, led by Samui. She has also been trained by Killer Bee.

Creation

Karui (カルイ, Karui) is a supporting character of the Naruto series that was created by Masashi Kishimoto, It first began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in November 1999. She was later introduced during the Invasion of Pain story arc that began in Volume 44.

She first appeared in Naruto Volume 45, CH. 417 "Raikage On the Move!!",

Character Evolution

Her name means in Japanese 軽い (karui), which means "light" (as in "not heavy"). This is a characteristic that mimic her personality.

Major Story Arcs

Invasion of Pain Arc

Karui and the rest of Team Samui were summoned to see the Ei Yotsuki, the Fourth Riakage. After Sasuke Uchiha abducted Killer Bee, he was ordering them to deliver a message to the Hokage of Konohagakure. They were demanding all information on Sasuke and calling a summit of the Kage.

Five Kage Summit Arc

Team Samui arrived discovering much of Konohagakure had been destroyed by Pain of the Akatsuki. While Samui delivered the message, Karui and Omoi searched for more detailed information on Sasuke. Who they found was Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, and Sai. Naruto, a friend of Sasuke and a Jinchūriki, at first agreed to talk with them alone, but couldn't bring himself to betray Sasuke. He offered them to take their anger out of him, and Karui took his offer by beating on him to make him talk. Omoi eventually had to stop her. Samui soon arrived, and she rejected Naruto's request to speak to the Raikage.

The team gathered all the information on Sasuke the village gave them then left the village to rendezvous with the Raikage on the way to the Land of Iron summit. What they hadn't realized is that Naruto had managed to track them. Karui then returned to Kumogakure.

Fourth Shinobi World War

Once the five nations banded together to stop Madara Uchiha's Asatsuki, Karui is placed in the second division of the Shinobi Alliance with Hinata, Neji and Kurotsuchi.With the appearance of the army of white Zetsu, Karui fights along with her forces using her swordsmanship. She then goes to back up the Fifth Division.

Ten-Tails Revival Arc

After the real Madara Uchiha appeared via the Edo Tensei. all the remaining members of the Shinobi Allaince moves to back up Naruto as he fights to prevent Obito and Madara from fully reviving the Ten Tails.

Powers & Abilities

Karui is a skilled ninja with impressive strength and sword fighting abilities. Her ninja rank is unknown, but she is trusted enough that she and her team were personally requested by the Raikage to travel on a special mission. Her fighting style tends to favor taijutsu and kenjutsu.

Karui's Jutsu

• Cloud Style: Front Slice (雲流表斬り, Kumo-Ryū Omotegiri): This is a sword fighting technique of Karui.This simple frontal slash can defeat several enemies with a single strike. She's used this to defeat several of the White Zetsu in one blow.

Naruto Shippuden (2007)

The Naruto Shippuden anime series is the second direct adaptation of Masashi Kishimoto's original manga. This series is produced by Studio Pierrot and first began airing in February 15, 2007. Samui's first anime appearance was in Naruto Shippuden Episode 156 "Surpassing the Master", which aired on April 15, 2010. Her character in the Japanese series is voiced by Yuka Komatsu, and the U.S. dub produced by VIZ Media is done by Cindy Robinson.

NARUTO Spin-Off: Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals (2012)

The NARUTO Spin-Off: Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals (NARUTO-ナルト- SD ロック・リーの青春フルパワー忍伝 , NARUTO Sugoi Doryoku: Rokku Rī no Seishun Furupowā Ninden) anime is a short-comedy adaptation of the of the Naruto spin-off manga series, Rock Lee's Seishun Full Power Ninden. It's produced by Studio Pierrot and first began airing in April 3. 2012. While not a direct adaptation of the spin-off manga, it follows the same theme of chibi-style characters that focuses on Team 9 in wacky adventures and situations that frequently breaks the fourth wall.

Karui's first appearance is in NARUTO Spin-Off: Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals Ep. 44 "The Staff Will Eat the Beans Afterwards! / The Raikage Is Under Attack!", which aired on February 5, 2013. Her character in the Japanese series is voiced by Yuka Komatsu, and the series has not been dubbed in English.

Films

Naruto 5: Blood Prison

There have been several films in the Naruto series produced by Studio Pierrot. Karui's first film appearance in the franchise is in Naruto the Movie: Blood Prison, the eighth movie that was released to Japanese theaters in July 30, 2011. The movie was directed by Masahiko Murata and screenplay by Akira Higashiyama. Samui appears briefly in the beginning of the film. Her character in the Japanese version is voiced by Yuka Komatsu, and the U.S. dub produced by VIZ Media is done by Cindy Robinson.
