If he has completely mastered every form of martial arts in the galaxy from the beginning of time until the 30th century, why would he name himself after a single martial art?
Karate Kid
Character » Karate Kid appears in 470 issues.
Karate Kid, also known as Val Armorr, has mastered every single form of unarmed combat in the 31st Century.
Why 'karate'?
" should be retconned like everything like everything else. MMA Kid ftw. "MMA Kid....LAME.
" If he has completely mastered every form of martial arts in the galaxy from the beginning of time until the 30th century, why would he name himself after a single martial art? "Then why don't you figure out a better and more accurate name for him ;P

How about 'Mars'? The ancient Roman God of War, and the origin of the phrase 'martial arts'.
Technically it could work if I (and probably a lot of other people too) didn't associate that with the planet more than anything else :P, besides, I like "Karate Kid".

Well it wouldn't be the first time a name was used by more than one person in the same universe.
"@Power NeXus: Maybe karate was still popular when they invented Karate Kid. "
Yeah, I'm thinking the character was created back in the day when 'karate' was still generally considered to be some awesome, mystical, Jackie-Chan-and-Buddhist-monks kind of fighting style. But now that karate has been introduced much more into the Western world, the name seems really stupid now.
Maybe he chose it because in his time line Karate was the most well kniwn for if Martial Arts? Or maybe KArate Kid sounds better than Judo Junior or Mister MArtial Arts.
Maybe that's why... although you'd expect him to be "Super-Karate Kid" instead, but that's quite a mouthful. Really though, I think at the time the character was made, the definition of "karate" wasn't distinguished as much as today. And Karate Kid is catchy.
For the record though, Val Armorr came to existence decades before Daniel LaRusso. But Mr. Miagi is still awesome.
"@Emperor Gonzo Noir said:Krav Maga Kid sounds much more awesome. ;) "" because Krav Maga Kid doesn't sound as good "
true
In 1966, Karate was still the most well-known martial art in the United States. Kung Fu and its many romantic movies from Hong Kong weren't yet popular in the US. Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" wouldn't come out for another 7 years, and it would be almost 2 decades before the 'ninja craze' of the 80's erupted.
So if you said 'Karate Kid' in 1966, everyone would generally get the idea of what you were talking about.
That's his name because "Karate" means 'empty hand'. Pretty fitting for a guy who doesn't need any sort of weapons to beat someones a$$.
Because when you put "karate" and "kid" together they sound like a superhero.
Or an 80's movie franchise.

Like maybe he's goin' in with weapons ready for war.
