    A work like Kabuki: The Alchemy almost defies criticism. What we have here is an artist working through the process of being an artist. Sure we've seen things like this before. The film 8 1/2, the works of Vonnegut and Pynchon, etc. etc.  But in comic book form, metafiction can be truly surreal. When comic characters, which are often (as in the case of Kabuki) semi-autobiographical constructs in many cases already, appear side-by-side with their creators, it feels more like you're standing there...
