Forever Evil is here. What is going on with the Justice League and the Justice League of America? The Crime Syndicate keeps saying the Justice League is dead but we all know that can't be the case, right?

With Matt Kindt taking over JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and the apparent jump forward in FOREVER EVIL #1, we asked him some questions to find out what's going on and what we can expect. He does address whether or not the League is dead.

    JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #8
    JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #8

Comic Vine: Will JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #8 pick up immediately after the events of Trinity War?

Matt Kindt: Yes. It starts off with everybody dead. You'll see them all dead. But then it moves forward.

CV: Will this series lead up to FOREVER EVIL #1 or will your story jump forward as well?

MK: We're going to take some time with it. In the first couple issues you might feel a little out of it. We'll see the survivors, Manhunter and Stargirl, are sort of trapped in this crazy prison. They're trying to escape, trying to figure it out. By the end of the second issue, they'll get down into the real world, FOREVER EVIL. Then they sort of interact with all the villains.

CV: For the next few issues, will the focus mainly be on the threat of the Crime Syndicate?

    From FOREVER EVIL #1
    From FOREVER EVIL #1

    MK: Yes.

CV: Will we see more of the Outsider since he wasn't seen in FOREVER EVIL #1

MK: No Outsider. The focus on my run of the book is going to be…it's almost like a buddy/cop travel movie with Manhunter and Stargirl. They'll be like good cop/bad cop. They're sort of dumped into this world of FOREVER EVIL and survive as they cross the country. They try to figure out the bigger mystery and they out to try to save the day, if there's a day that can be saved. It's really going to be character driven. The characters driving it are going to be Manhunter and Stargirl. Every issue they're going to be facing a different crazy villain. Someone from FOREVER EVIL. And a bigger villain, I can't reveal, of course.

By the end of the arc, I don't want you to just know Stargirl and Manhunter. I want you to really love those characters. It's my goal as the writer.

CV: I was going to ask if we're going to see more of a mix in the roster but it sounds like you'll mainly be focusing on the two of them?

MK: Yeah. Everyone else is dead. There's not much I can do with dead.

    JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #8
    JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #8

CV: So I assume you'll have the chance to flesh out Martian Manhunter some more like we've seen in your backups?

MK: Yeah, definitely. We've got a lot more and also Stargirl. We haven't seen enough of her. I think she's really an interesting character that we'll start to learn more about. I want to give her a chance to really step out and become a star…literally a star, you know? The fun of the series is going to be Stargirl and Manhunter interacting because they couldn't be more opposite, in so many ways. The villains are going be there but the real conflict is going to be between Stargirl and Manhunter.

    No Caption Provided

CV: How will JLA compare to the JUSTICE LEAGUE title now?

MK: It's kind of it's own thing. It's not going to really crossover with anything else except the FOREVER EVIL stuff. I'm going to end the arc in a really big way. There's going to be a big conflict/event that will tie into FOREVER EVIL. Of course it's all secret. Shh.

CV: Can you tell us what character you're most excited to write?

MK: STARGIRL. Because I'm a …she's a…I guess Manhunter is technically more unlike me than anybody because he's from Mars but a teenage girl is the most fun to write because it's something I haven't done a lot of. I like the challenge of doing that. Stargirl needs to be everyone's favorite. That's what I'm going to try to do.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #8 is on sale October 9.

So it's safe to assume that Supes and the gang won't be in JL. I also hope this "big villain" doesn't outshine the Syndicate.

Even though, I can't wait for what happens next on the whole thing. I would say my main wait would be for what they have in store for Stargirl and how her character develops, not that they have laid out the foundation here, but as always it not always the full story.

@g_man Little correction JLA issue 8 is out October 9th, issue 9 is out November 13th

So Matt Kindt is taking over until the book turns into Justice League Canada and Lemire takes over? Or is JLC a new book?

Really looking forward to Kindt's run. It's not very long but I'm a huge MM fan and looking forward to learning more about Stargirl. :)

@kennyshat: Yes, the book becomes JLC when Lemire takes over.

@colanicole: My guess is that Nightwing is going to be the star of Justice League and, as stated here, MM and Stargirl will star in JLA. And we can see from the solicits that John Constantine is alive and kicking too, so my guess is that those are the only "major" (so to speak) characters we'll see from the Justice League books. But I'm hoping to see more non-JL heroes (Black Lightning, Booster Gold, Black Canary, etc.). We're also getting at least Power Girl and Steel in Suicide Squad during Forever Evil.

They better be sure of their stories and creative teams if DC publishes JL books without the big ones for 5 months or so. Very risky. But more Stargirl sounds good, she was way underused since her intro.

Do DC really have to play up the whole dead heroes thing again when it's obvious they aren't? And how did the 7 members of the Crime Syndicate beat all the heroes anyway?

Keep in mind all of the Leaguers were already weakened. They were all beating the shit out of one another and then oh look at that a whole new powerful team of villains, with similar powersets to the most powerful members of the League (yes, Firestorm is one of the most powerful members on the teams. Don't try arguing it, because you're wrong.), arrives and is at full power. The teams were also probably extremely demoralized considering Atom, who both the regular League and the JLA thought was on their side, then Cyborg is dying, and so is SUPERMAN. So the Leagues were in a bad, bad place. It isn't much of a surprise to me that they got beaten obviously. (But it also doesn't surprise me that at least John Constantine was able to slip out.)

Oh I wasn't saying that comment to you specifically. There are plenty of people out there who underestimate Firestorm's powers. That was more of a general comment. Sorry.

@lcazt1996: My apologies, I sounded more confrontational than I meant to. I've used Firestorm in a couple of battle forum debates so I had to learn a bit about what he can do. The rest of your comments are perfectly sound though and I can definitely see where you're coming from.

@citizenbane: yup. Cause Johns hates Batman. He really does. Well, at least he doesn't hold him in as high regard as he hold every other DC character.

But again, about Johns... he is off of JLA now and Aquaman... so he only writes one ongoing anymore? Just JL? Nothing else, or did I miss some announcement. God,I hope he doesn't get a Batman title. That would be heartbreaking to read for me. Alfred beating him up and everybody laughing at him for 20 pages each month.

Ok, Now this is something I can get behind, Manhunter needs to establish himself in the 52 dcu, and reclaim his spot in justice league once again. So would like to see less secrets and mystery with J'onn and return to being the unbreakable hero of justice he is.

And what can I say about Stargirl, I always been a fan and kept the JSA in rotation simply because of her.

    look forward to reading this

They're obviously not dead. I mean, Superman, Wonder Woman and others all have their own ongoings. Plus, I wouldn't call J'onn a nobody.

I really like Stargirl so I'm happy she's going to be front and center of his arc. I like the idea of her teaming up with the Manhunter too. I don't like the whole "everyone's dead", if that is actually how it is, I imagine it's gonna be like the end of Blackest Night where everyone came back to life. Obviously I'm just guessing, but seems like there's too much death in comics these days, even if it is only temporary.

*Yawn* It's not like anyone believes they are really dead, they're not going to kill everyone off and, every year they pull this stupid Crime Syndicate thing. Yes, powerful JLA villains... can we please do something new? Isn't that why we did this whole reboot?

I'm confused and/or out of the loop. Where is Batman? I don't see his dead corpse anywhere. Is it because Batman is too cool to die?

I believe Nightwing mentioned him when he was talking on the com (or was that when he was carrying Mr. Zsasz?) so I don't think Bruce is dead yet.

I thought I heard Kindt was taking over this book, but when the Justice League Canada story came out I just assumed that would be starting after Villain's Month. I think I'll take a breather from this series until Lemire jumps on board.

Also, I thought Simon Baz was supposed to live through the "death of the Justice League"?
