If the Justice League Movie were to only have 5 characters, who should be used? This question is being asked because the Avengers seems to be sticking to the small team formula which is more conducive to character development.

I would actually subtract GL and toss in Flash. My JLA movie would encompass an world threat, and so all the heroes would get stretched to their limits. All the SUPER heroes who actually be running around all over the world, being pushed to their limits. it would be really hard to push GL to his limit.

also, his powers alone would take up half of the film budget.

my lineup would never be made for a few reasons.

A)because hollywood would need to add an African American to the roster, or some ethnicity. this could be mended by adding John Henry Irons in (kind of like war machines part in IRONMAN), but it would have to be done exactly one way, and Hollywood is really bad at picking the right thing to do in comics movies.

B) they would rather use GL than Flash. they wouldnt have to spend much time on his origin, and they would want to try and put new fire beneath the character so they could utilize the contracts they already have with RR and the character.

C. no one likes Aquaman but the fans, and Hollywood has already told us to go fuck ourselves a couple times. To get an Aquman movie rendering in any sense, we would need a massive surge of interest in him from major actors and directors. If we suddenly had a handful of Whedon'esq Youtube videos with Aquaman, or a bunch of celebs saying they love the new 52 title, then MAYBE he would get a mention in a JLA movie. But right now outside of the comics community hes still a joke.

D.) Flash is an unknown. They dont know how he would rub audiences, and so they would more than likely use GL, and put cyborg or MM in that final spot as an ethnic character (smallville style MM went over well with viewers).

#15 Posted by super_psycho (2792 posts) - - Show Bio

@Grim: Flash is unknown?

Are you serious?

I like John as Green lantern not because he is black or anything, He is better than Hal.

Flash is unknown to the vast majority of people. Him and Thor are that bottom bit of the A-list that people who dont read comics dont know. He DOES have a bit of recognition (Six Flags promotes him a tiny bit), but the tv show he had was before many peoples time, and not that well known.

Gl has already had a failed movie. He's in peoples minds now. But Flash is not.

and I agree. i think DC skirts around his being better than everyone, but day to day he's the best, with Hal only beating him out in Sheer willpower when times are really tough.

@Grim: He is far more popular than other characters you mentioned(martian and cyborg)..He is almost as popular as Green Lantern..

Ask anyone who is the fastest man alive and they will tell you its Flash..

#18 Posted by ReVamp (22865 posts) - - Show Bio
  • Superman
  • Batman [Dick Grayson, just because it'll never happen]
  • Green Lantern

These guys for obvious reasons, they already enjoy plenty commercial success.

  • The Flash, because he's plenty funny and his banter with GL would be awesome.
  • Cyborg, because he adds a differentiating power set to the team.

not saying he's not. Im saying the other characters are actually NECESSARY in Hollywood/DC's eyes for ethnicity purposes, and i Cyborg's case to make the JLA movie tie to the new 52 comics. Flash just wouldnt have the Hollywood pull to make it into a 5 man lineup.

and people know OF the flash, but they know nothing ABOUT him. They could point him out on a page, but many people would look at a movie with Both him and Superman and think he is redundant. Superman is super fast too. Ive actually heard people say that.

these are just all the reasons Hollywood wouldnt use him. I find them as stupid as you do, but unless a major director demanded him, he probably wouldnt make a 5 man JLA team.

@Grim: That's what you think, in the end of the day its your opinion..

Why are you even comparing Flash to superman when we both know that superman is the most popular superhero.

If someone like cyborg and martian are in movie with superman people would think same..

He is in top 5, he is constant member of Justice league unlike martian or aquaman

I would find a way to leave out Wonder Woman and include anyone not her....

Supes, Flash, Batman, GL(pick either) and insert any female character not Wonder Woman

#22 Posted by The Stegman (24323 posts) - - Show Bio

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman , Green Lantern and Flash

this,

i know we all like John and Kyle more than Hal, but he WAS the first human GL, he deserves to be in the first JLA movie, same with Barry as flash instead of Wally. Supes, Bats and Diana are just a given

my opinion is my initial roster. I would totally toss Flash in. Im just telling you all the reasons Hollywood would never do it. They are driven by names and big actors. We got Black Nick Fury because Sam wanted to do it, and everyone loves him, and with him they wouldnt have to pull some lesser know black Avenger onto the screen. We got Black Widow because people in Hollywood love Scarlet Johansson.

Aquaman. Antman. RunAways. Black Panther. Lobo. Wonder Woman. Flash. the reason Hollywood hasn't touched any of them is because A.) a majority of people know NOTHING about them, and B) because there are no important Hollywood stars or directors with a hard-on for them. thats just the way comics movies work.

Now that Marvel has its own studios and can do what they want with their money, we are likely to see this change for MARVEL heroes. But nearly 75% of the DC movies/tv shows made are about or tied to Batman and Superman. Hex and GL were their attempts to step out of that system, and they both flopped. Its very unlikely WB will back any other ideas without major a actor/director pushing to be a part of it.

Constantine i didnt forget them, they arent the same. Both of them were out of standard continuity and completely unknown to non readers, as was Jonah Hex and the Spirit. Scott Pilgrim. Green Hornet. KickAss. Hollywood picks up on those because they can alter them however they want, and the only people who notice are the small percentage of comics readers who reads or remembers them. Compare this to when they alter more mainstream heroes. Superman Returns. Batman and Robin. GL.Hulk. because more people know these characters, less change is accepted.

im not trying to start an argument. My Dream lineup includes Flash and Aquaman. But these things have all been reasons movies have failed or been cancelled before. In a five man lineup, Supes Bats and WW are guaranteed, leaving a slot for one ethnicity and one more. If they made the movie in the next 5 years, they would want to try to recycle Ryan Reynolds, as they already have a multi film contract with him. Any later and GL, Flash, and Aquaman all have an equal shot, as whoever they picked would be who they would try to build a solo-franchise around. after 5 years, it would be easier to reboot GL, and a reboot is easier than a fresh character.

its Hollywood dawg.

1 and 2. Superman and Batman. Can't imagine JL movie without both of them.
3. Wonder Woman. We need strong and attractive female figure.
4 and 5. Flash and Green Lantern. Flash can be great as comic relief, and over-serious Green Lantern as constrast.

Most people are saying the main 5. I guess if it is the core film, that I would have to agree... Although, this is assuming all of the characters have already been introduced by their own films.

Ahhh... Now that I'm at a decent computer, let me expand on my answer

WB/DC aren't Marvel Studios. That being said, I sincerely doubt that they'd do the smart thing by introducing each member in their own films, only to have them meet in an eventual Justice League movie. With Nolan's Batman trilogy, and Snyder's soon-to-be Superman franchise on it's way, I also doubt that they would include the World's finest in their JLA film. I feel that that'd be smart because, like it or not, this is a team film. With the general audience today, you know they're only gonna wanna see Superman/Batman kick all sorts of ass. This would cause pain to all the other great characters on the team (Flash, WW, etc.) in terms of screen time. So I'd rather Batman and Superman not be in a movie like this.

So here are my personal, somewhat cliche, choices for an imaginary 5 person Justice League movie.

- Wonder Woman- Face it. Women are barely represented in the superhero genre thus far, and the only movie heroines are almost knock-offs of existing characters (i.e. Laura Croft = Indiana Jones). She's more than suitable to lead a team and DC needs to emphasize their feminist voice without the aid of their golden character, Batman (with characters like Catwoman and possibly Talia Al Ghul in The Dark Knight Rises).

- The Flash- This character gets little to no exposure when it comes to your modern-day TV/films. It doesn't exactly matter which Scarlet Speedster they choose for the film, but as a fan of the Silver Age, I'd like for it to be Barry Allen (even though Wally's my favorite). The possible brains of the group (as Barry is a talented scientist), he can also provide comic relief. He'll play nicely with everyone, but perhaps butt heads if the situation calls for it.

- Green Lantern- True, while his solo film failed miserably, it's not the character's fault. Hal Jordan could translate extremely well to the big screen with the proper talent and script. Of course I choose Hal Jordan to wear the emerald ring for this film because a) I like the Silver Age, and b) he's always bonded very well to Barry Allen. I also feel that, since this is Hal we're talking about, he'll constantly question/butt heads with his teammates. This will make Hal extremely unpredictable, and fun to watch in a team setting.

- Martian Manhunter- Since this is Hollywood we're talking about, we'll need some race diversity on our team. What better way to represent any race than an alien? He's different than all the other heroes, but quite possibly, the strongest member of this team. His morals are fantastic and he's an extremely interesting character. Furthermore, the team needs someone that's level headed to balance the questioning/harassment from Hal Jordan. He could also be the reason the team forms in the first place, i.e. Bruce Timm's Justice League.

-Aquaman- Like the Flash and Martian Manhunter, Aquaman is barely utilized in the public eye, and this would be a perfect time to show what he can do on the big screen. This could either be the Aquaman that's currently being written by Geoff Johns or the King Arthur-type Aquaman written by Grant Morrison in his JLA run. Commander of 2/3's of the Earth itself, Aquaman is an absolute muscle to the team. He's loyal, skilled in battle, and could be this team's "Thor" as he's not used to the surface world and how it works.

Together, I think this select group of characters can make for an outstanding Justice League film, providing that DC/WB doesn't do things the "Marvel Studios way".

Thanks for listnin'

Hmm. Let's try to make this as diverse as possible, for the sake of the visuals. Superman. Red Tornado. Elongated Man. The Atom. Firestorm. A bit of a departure, sure, but it would be a spectacle for the eyes. No repeated powers. Everyone offers something unique to the team.

Kyle would be the ideal choice for a solo film or even a JLA film. If it's for JLA though, I think he'd work better in a sequel with other heroes in his age group (Wally West, Dick Grayson, etc.)

becuase of Six Flags and the JLA cartoon and video games (DC vs MK, JLA heroes, and DCUO) and the old tv shows, allot of people have now seens and/or heard of Flash and Green arrow and MM and all those other low A/High B list heroes. people can look at a flash shirt and say "cool! Flash!"

... but ask them how he got his powers. ask them if they know who Barry and Wally are.Even people who have seen him on cartoons and played him in games no NEXT TO NOTHING about him save that he can run fast. and when they look at him next to Supeman, they really dont see why you would need him next to a guy who can run just as fast and do a million other things too (i know flash is faster. I know all the reasons Flash is his own hero. But people dont. Dont attack me)

this was never about who is more popular. All my posts have been about the sad reality of the situation, which is hollywood will try to guaranteeing the most money out of their film. The tried and true method in an ensemble film is to have your A listers, ethnics, a comic relief, and a romance. Losers. Oceans 11. Any ensemble film made in the past 15 years follows that system. In SOME action films, they take out the romance. But only some. If its a movie about a large family (a-la brady bunch or Cheaper by the Dozen) they can sometimes get away with no ethnic character.

If Superman, batman, and WW are the a listers, you CAN get romance out of that, but your missing ethnicity and comic relief. Batman and WW are NOT that funny. Flash sure as hell can be (depending on if they use Wally's personality of Berry's)... but so is DC's current GL, and he sure as hell has a bigger plot in media right now. and they can get comedy out of an Aquman or an MM or pretty much anyone else they decided to use.

i can think of Several ways to make my Flash/Aquaman lineup work... but i dont see it happening. DC DOES NOT have their own studios like Marvel does, so they have to give WB the final say.... which is how we got Ryan Reynolds and that GL movie. So i really dont have faith that they wont try to salvage that franchise if they start making a JL movie before his contract is up.

....no im not. you really dont get what im saying do you? HOLLYWOOD makes their superhero movies based on what they think the average movie goer wants, not what is in the comics. By Hollywood Logic, Ryan Reynolds is the next logical choice in a 5 man linup... and now we need a black guy. The very un imaginitive non comics reading decision makers at Warner Brothers would not know the difference between what Flash can do with his Speed And what Superman does with his speed. They would just see a bunch of powers vs one power.

Marvel does have their own studio. They dont own the movie rights to Xmen and Spiderman because they gave them away before they created Marvel Studios, But all the movies tied to Avengers are made by Marvel Studios. Im not sure how you dont know this...

WB is a movie studio. They make MANY films. DC is one of many places they can tap into for films Most of the big decision makers at WB have only read a couple of comics in their life. Marvel Studios ONLY makes marvel films. They know ALLOT about comics. Most of the people who work at Marvel Studios are Marvel employees, or fans. So when MARVEL makes a movie, they find a balance between what people would watch and what Comics fans would appreciate.

WARNER BROTHERS doesn't give two shits what comics fans want. They own the DC licenses. They can do what they want. And they want to to put A list actors into movies loosely based around comics heroes. This is exactly why NO MAJOR DC MOVIE HAS EVER BEEN LIKE THEIR COMICS. This current Batman franchise? Entirely fabricated by Noland. Old Batman and Superman? Nothing to do with any comics stories. Jonah Hex? they took two very different takes on the character and mashed them together. The Spirit. Steel. Catwoman. Swamp Thing. I think the best we got was WATCHMEN, and thats only because they only had one comic to draw from instead of years of continuity. and they still tweaked it.

so yes, WB own DC. But Wb does not understand the massive and fundimental differences between all of the Robins, or Why the Flash's speed is way cooler than Superman's. All they see is a kid with an R, or a fast guy and a better fast guy. THIS is a list of movies WB makes (just go down to 2010's), compared to THIS list of Marvel Studios movies (go down to independent productions). WB has hundreds of movies, and the only comic movies they have faith in are Batman and Superman solo movies.

@super_psycho: Ryan has a multi picture contract with an expiration date on it. They wont NOT use him if they have the chance, because its cheaper than signing someone new to a multi picture deal. And yea, he kinda is that popular. He's doing 3 to 4 films a year which is really hard to do unless Hollywood wants you so bad they are willing to worl around your scheduled instead of re-cast you.

Disney owns them, but a Studio does not have to go to their owners for permission. A studio has its own money. Marvel Studios could actually sue Disney if Disney tried to stop them from making a movie. Since DC does not have their own studio, they have to go through Warner Brothers Studios (not to be confused with WB Records and WB Television... though all 3 are owned by WB incorporated. get that?). And WB studios does not care as much as Marvel studios because they are doing 100 other things, and they think comic books are silly.

THE STUDIO CHOOSES THE CREATIVE TEAM! They get final say, cuz its their money. Joss Whedon is the perfect person to write and direct ANY comics movie, but Warner Brothers shot down his Wonder Woman idea (presumably because it was too much like the comics). They decide who and what and how. Marvel has its own studio, so they can chose. But DC does not, so they cant. BECAUSE ITS THE STUDIOS MONEY. and DC does not have their own Studio. but Marvel does. So they have their own money. but DC doesnt.... im being repetitive on purpose so it sinks in.

look at that list again. Hulk was not made by Marvel Studios. Incredible Hulk was, and it did follow closer to the comics than Hulk did. And so did Captain America. Im not saying they are exactly like the comics, but they take stories directly from the comics and then change them only a little. None of the DC movies (save finally this new one with Bane) have actually just adapted one story from the comics into a movie. and if they did they did it very, very wrong.

Read my previous posts, i don't have to repeat everything..

look at that list again.

Green lantern was more like comic-book than hulk(yes i was talking about incredible hulk) and captain america..
