THE STORY:  The moon has been split in half and the sky is falling on the earth.  Our team begins its final battle to save the moon and hopefully the earth but Eclipso and his Shadow army stand in the way!  Donna Troy is the linch pin to victory for the team.  Can she defeat Eclipso and help the team save us all?

I'm not going to tell you that but if you want to know buy this issue!

THE REVIEW:  The addition of Brett Booth was a welcome one.  He replaced possibly the worst JLA artist, in my opinion, and the story took a much needed turn for the better.  Not that some of the Bagley issues weren't good, some where, but the story telling became clear and the scenes flow smoothly.  However, we have an artist change for this issue and I am more than happy to report that the visual end of the story remains strong.  Daniel Sampere brings a more classic look that is wholey appropriate to the status of the strong story that James Robinson is writting.   He did have some help form Miguel Sepulveda, whose work I previouly enjoyed in this years Superman/Batman annual.  The story itself has the "world wide" magnitude that the JLA should be expected to deal with.  Yeah, Eclipso is much more powerful than he had been in my past  experience or memory of him.  Zuriel is in this issue even if it is brief.  The lack of the too often used dialogue boxes allowed the story to flow and when they were used it felt needed.   There was only one scene that I felt the dialogue was off, when Dick is saying to Todd that he should tell the team what he had figured out and Todd turns it back to him to explain it.  Dick as Batman is a great detective and I felt that this scene was a way to show us he is but it felt forced.  Now that I am done picking that nit.  I can say that this was a great issue and that James Robinson has delivered the goods wonderfully building a story and a team that feels like the Justice League of America!

The strength of the heroes, the scope and scale of threat are right on.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:  buy the book read the story and enjoy!

Justice League of America #58

To be honest I have been TOLERATING this story arc I haven't been exactly enjoying it. So I'm hoping this story is coming to a close soon! So basically this issue is just the League still trying to fight Eclipso and anyone under his control. They devise a plan for the atom and Starman to get shot into the Shades head so they can stop Eclipso's influence on him. The issue ends with Donna using everything she has to try and defeat Eclipso but he simply stabs her in the chest and breaks her lasso. It seems that she's dead.

The GOOD!

I do like to see this team work together and I like seeing their ideas and plans. This is probably one of the toughest battles the league has ever faced and it's cool to see this unlikely team of Justice Leaguers work together. I thought it was cool that the Atom referenced the Brave and the Bold.

Art:

to be honest I did like the art in this issue. I think Donna looked the best in it and it was a nice change from the usual Booth art.

The BAD!

The ending just pissed me off so bad. I think Robinson just killed off Donna as a stunt to gain more fans. It was a way of making this already dull story arc into something exciting and heart pounding. NO all that did for me was make me angry. Donna Troy is one of my favorite comic book characters and he kills her off like it was nothing. Her lasso should not have broken so easily and she should'nt have died so easily. What I also love is that we get this dramatic inner monologue from her first about all she's triumphed and gotten through and then she just dies. SMH.

The Verdict!

This just hasn't been a good story arc. The ending pissed me off so bad that it just ruined my whole opinion of the issue and this entire story arc. I don't know where Robinsion went with this story but it just didn't work for me. DONT PICK UP! 2 out of 5.
