On Earth-1, in Central City, the Silver Age Flash saves a rookie policeman's life, from a sinister ambush. On Earth-2, in Keystone City, the Golden Age Flash thwarts a bank messenger robbery. On Earth-3, Johnny Quick steals a priceless sculpture. Johnny Quick barely escapes the police, when they manage to ensnare him in a net. Not far away, Power Ring and Superwoman are also having a hard time keeping law enforcement at bay. Johnny Quick, Power Ring, and Superwoman, meet with the Owlman, at their Secret Sanctuary.
The Crime Syndicate of America has a problem. Without a worthy challenge to test themselves against, the villains are becoming complacent, resulting in their near capture by law enforcement. Ultraman arrives with a solution. During a recent theft, Ultraman exposed himself to a large, kryptonite meteor. The kryptonite radiation gave Ultraman the power to peer through the dimensional veil between parallel Earths. Ultraman bore witness to the heroic exploits of the Justice League of America, on Earth-1. The Crime Syndicate of America decides to journey to Earth-1, to pit themselves against the Justice League of America.
The Crime Syndicate of America begin a crime spree on Earth-1. The Justice League of America rushes out to meet the threat. The Flash confronts Ultraman. The Flash mistakenly uses kryptonite against Ultraman, giving the super-villain another power, flame vision. Ultimately, the Flash does manage to subdue Ultraman. Before he loses consciousness, Ultraman speaks the word "Volthoom". The Batman confronts Johnny Quick. Though the fight between them goes back and forth for several moments, ultimately, the Batman is the victor.
Before he loses consciousness, Johnny Quick also utters the word "Volthoom". Superman confronts Power Ring. After discovering that Power Ring's power ring is not vulnerable to either the color yellow, or wood, Superman finally defeats his foe. Before he loses consciousness, Power Ring, too, speaks the word "Volthoom". Wonder Woman confronts Superwoman. An epic battle ensues between the two warrior women. Ultimately, Wonder Woman triumphs. Before she loses consciousness, Superwoman whispers the word "Volthoom".
The Green Lantern confronts the Owlman. Though the Owlman is able to influence the Green Lantern's use of his power ring, ultimately, the Green Lantern defeats him. Before he loses consciousness, the Owlman shouts out the word "Volthoom". As a failsafe against defeat, Power Ring placed a vibratory frequency within each member of the Crime Syndicate of America, which would return them to Earth-3 whenever they said the trigger word, "Volthoom". The Crime Syndicate of America made sure they were in contact with the Justice League of America when they spoke the word.
Thus, the Justice League of America was drawn to Earth-3, as well. The Crime Syndicate of America beat the living daylights out of the Justice League of America, who are still dazed from the sudden dimensional shift. Triumphant on their own world, but losers on Earth-1, the Crime Syndicate of America decide to fight the Justice League of America on what they deem to be neutral ground... Earth-2. The Justice League of America is sent back to Earth-1, in a paralytic trance, to await their final confrontation with the Crime Syndicate of America.
Before they can do battle with the Justice League of America on Earth-2, though, the Crime Syndicate of America must first do away with Earth-2's champions, the Justice Society of America. Unbeknownst to the Crime Syndicate of America, the Justice Society of America is aware of Ultraman's gaze upon them.The Justice Society of America confer with the Justice League of America. Doctor Fate momentarily lifts the enchantment on the Justice League of America.
The Justice League of America warn the Justice Society of America about the coming of the Crime Syndicate of America, to Earth-2. In particular, the Justice Society of America is apprised of the Crime Syndicate of America's "Volthoom" tactic. Forewarned, the Justice Society of America stands ready to meet the threat of the Crime Syndicate of America.
