Not Stealing Much...
Spoilers in this review, you know the drill. I'm reading all the Villain Month issues for the new reader perspective. This issue is dealing with a new Shadow Thief(a character I already know nothing about) so we'll see if this issue can sell me on this new villain.
The Good:
This issue did indeed sell me on this villain. This new Shadow Thief is actually pretty interesting and while her anti-alien motive is stale it feels pretty organic. Also this issue does a fantastic job of showing why Shadow Thief feels her actions are justified and how her mindset works. The action is also pretty good and I like the design of the Shadow suit overall, although I think it looks more visually striking when it covers part of her face rather than displaying her full like on the cover and at the end of the issue.
The Bad:
This issue jumps all over the place and it gets pretty confusing time shifts from panel to panel without warning and what happens when isn't very clear until half way through a scene. She doesn't steal anything, which is odd for a character with "thief" in their name.
Overall:
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this issue, it makes me really invested in this new villain and I hope she pops up again. Hawkman fans should check this one out and anyone willing to give a new villain a chance should certainly take a look.
