On Earth-2, four black spheres have given four disparate individuals super-human powers, while also turning them evil. In attempting to apprehend these new super-villains, the Justice Society of America were defeated. Johnny Thunder's magic Thunderbolt was next tasked with bringing these villains to justice, but also failed. The Justice Society of America summoned the Justice League of America, to Earth-2, to aid in the case.
The Justice League Of America, however, had dealt with the exact same problem on Earth-1, and also met with defeat. The Justice Society of America, and the Justice League of America, discuss a strategy to defeat the four villains. The Golden Age Robin suggests fighting fire with fire. The Green Lantern, and Superman, locate the radiation signatures of the black spheres. The Flash, and the Golden Age Wonder Woman, then collect the trace amounts of radioactive material.
The Flash, the Green Lantern, the Hourman, and the Golden Age Wonder Woman are bathed in the radiation of the black spheres. The Justice Society of America, and the Justice League of America, split into four teams, to take down the four super-villains. THe Hourman, the Golden Age Robin, and Superman go after Marty Baxter, The Smashing Sportsman. As feared, the black sphere radiation turns the Hourman evil. The Hourman begins battling Superman.
The Hourman tunnels underground, then comes back up swinging. The Hourman savagely beats Superman. Realizing that the Hourman grabbed chunks of kryptonite, from underground, the Golden Age Robin forces the Hourman to release them. The Golden Age Robin battles the Hourman, giving Superman time to recover. The Hourman races for the Tiber River. When the ultra-powerful Hourman opts to dodge the Golden Age Robin's attack, the Teen Wonder takes a gamble, and tackles the Hourman.
Both combatants fall into the Tiber River. The Hourman begins drowning the Golden Age Robin. Superman attacks the Hourman. Superman realizes that the Hourman is rapidly weakening underwater. Superman subdues the Hourman, having discovered that water neutralizes the black sphere radiation. The Flash, the Green Arrow, and the Golden Age Hawkman pursue How Chu. As feared, the black sphere radiation turns the Flash evil. The Flash attacks the Green Arrow, and the Golden Age Hawkman.
A pitched battle ensues. Strangely, the Flash takes a risky course of action, to avoid running into a field of wisteria. The Green Arrow fires an explosive arrow into the wisteria field, while the the Golden Age Hawkman fans the flowers at the Flash. The Flash suffers a terrible allergic reaction to the wisteria, and collapses. Another neutralizing agent for the black sphere radiation has been discovered. The Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, and the Wildcat pursue Horace Rowland, the Money Master.
As feared, the black sphere radiation turns the Green Lantern evil. The Green Lantern attacks Mister Terrific, and the Wildcat. A pitched battle ensues. When a stray branch strikes the Green Lantern down, Mister Terrific realizes that wood neutralizes the black sphere radiation. To be certain, Mister Terrific, and Wildcat, beat the Green Lantern with wooden sticks. Johnny Thunder, the Thunderbolt, and the Golden Age Wonder Woman pursue Claire Morton, the Gem Girl.
As feared, the black sphere radiation turns the Golden Age Wonder Woman evil. The Golden Age Wonder Woman punches Johnny Thunder off of the Thunderbolt. While the Thunderbolt is busy saving Johnny Thunder, the Golden Age Wonder Woman goes after the Gem Girl alone. The Golden Age Wonder Woman attempts to thwart the Gem Girl, by stealing the moonstone herself. When Johnny Thunder intervenes, the Golden Age Wonder Woman punches Johnny Thunder into unconsciousness.
The Golden Age Wonder Woman lassoes the Gem Girl, and hurls her across the room. The Gem Girl shatters a water fountain, which revives Johnny Thunder. Johnny Thunder orders the Thunderbolt to subdue the Golden Age Wonder Woman. The Thunderbolt's mystic powers, however, are repelled by the black sphere radiation.Inexplicably, Johnny Thunder decides to tell a joke. Astonishingly, the Golden Age Wonder Woman begins laughing.
Johnny Thunder hits the Golden Age Wonder Woman with joke, after joke, after joke. Amazingly, laughter also neutralizes the black sphere radiation. Johnny Thunder subdues the Gem Girl, How Chu, the Money Master, and the Smashing Sportsman with jokes. The Thunderbolt removes the black sphere radiation from the four super-villians. The Justice Society of America, and the Justice League of America, arrive, carrying large quantities of water, wisteria, and wood. With the crisis resolved, the Justice League of America prepare to return to Earth-1, to finish the case. Johnny Thunder writes down a bunch of jokes for the Justice League of America to use.
