The Lord of Time unleashes warriors of the past and future on the present! As the League tries to stop him, they disappear one by one and find themselves under the control of Felix Faust!
The spirits of the Demons Three... Abnegazar, Rath, and Ghast... are released into the world. In a lighthouse, on the coast of Maine, Felix Faust summons the Demons Three. Faust demands the demons bestow power upon him. The Demons Three can only do so when their bodies have been freed, as well. Millennia ago, the Demons Three were defeated, and imprisoned, by the beneficial Timeless Ones. As a failsafe against imprisonment, the Demons Three crafted three mystic artifacts...the Red Jar of Calythos, the Green Bell of Uthool, and the Silver Wheel of Nyorlath. Used in unison, as part of a mystic ritual, these artifacts could release the Demons Three.
Unable to destroy the artifacts, the Timeless Ones secreted them away, in three separate locations, leaving behind magical wards to guard them. The Demons Three tell Faust that if he could find, and recover, these items, they could be released, then forced to serve him for one century. However, only beings of incredible power could possibly overcome the Timeless Ones' guards. Having come so close to his goals only to fall short, Faust gives in to despair. Faust recalls the events of his life that have led him to this moment. Suddenly, Faust realizes that the Justice League of America might possess the power to retrieve the three artifacts.
Using what limited power they possess, as spirits, the Demons Three advise Faust on a spell, one that will allow him to seize control of the Justice League of America. The eight members of the Justice League of America, along with their mascot, Snapper Carr, manifest on Faust's fingertips. Faust touches each fingertip to a corresponding talisman. creating a sorcerous circuit, that will bring the Justice League of America under Faust's power. The spirits of the Demons Three vanish. The Lord of Time begins his conquest of the 20th Century. Batman and the Flash confront the Lord Of Time. In surmounting the Lord Of Time's force barrier, both the Flash and Batman come in contact with Faust's talismans, and vanish.
Superman, Wonder Woman, and J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter from Mars engage the Lord of Time's armies. During the course of the conflict, all three heroes come in contact with Faust's talismans, and vanish. The Green Lantern, the Green Arrow, Aquaman, and Snapper Carr engage the Lord of Time's naval forces. During the course of the conflict, the remaining members of the Justice League of America come in contact with Faust's talismans, and vanish. Entranced, the Justice League of America appear before Faust. Separating them into teams of three, Faust sends the Justice League of America out to retrieve the three mystic artifacts.
Scanning the planet with both his telescopic and x-ray visions, Superman locates the Rad Jar of Calythos. Superman drills down into a cavern, but is stopped dead in his tracks by a horn-playing demon. Superman uses his heat vision to destroy the horn, though he, himself, is still paralyzed. Wonder Woman races past Superman, only to be immobilized by a second demon, playing a different horn. Wonder Woman disarms the demon, though, she, herself, is still immobilized. The Green Arrow races past Wonder Woman, only to be stopped by a third demon, playing pipes. The Green Arrow fires his boomerang arrow, to take the demon out from behind.
By playing the demon's pipes in reverse, the Green Arrow releases Superman and Wonder Woman from their enchantment. Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Green Arrow successfully retrieve the Red Jar of Calythos. By racing around the world at light speed, the Flash sets up vibrations that peel off the Green Bell of Uthool. J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter of Mars can hear the sound, and track it back to it's source. J'onzz digs down to the Green Bell of Uthool, only to be taken out by a fire elemental. The Flash is stopped by a water elemental. The Flash manages to destroy both the fire and water elementals. Batman battles against an air elemental.
Ultimately, Batman defeats the air elemental. Batman, the Flash, and J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter from Mars, successsfully retrieve the Green Bell of Uthool. The Green Lantern locates the Silver Wheel of Nyorlath, and sends Aquaman to retrieve it. The Silver Wheel of Nyorlath is protected by a being of pure electricity. Aquaman summons electric eels to bind the electrical creature. The Green Lantern opens a rift in the sea floor, which drags the electrical creature away. The Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Snapper Carr successfully retrieve the Silver Wheel of Nyorlath. The Justice League of America turn the mystic artifacts over to Faust, who begins the ritual to release the Demons Three.
Though physically paralyzed, Aquaman can still bring his telepathic powers to bear. Summoning nearby marine life, Aquaman orders a whale to hurl a squadron of flying fish into the lighthouse. Faust takes a face full of fish, breaking his concentration, and severing his connection to the Demons Three. With the ritual interrupted, the Demons Three remain imprisoned. The Green Lantern takes possession of the three mystic artifacts. Wonder Woman takes Faust to jail. The rest of the Justice League resumes their conflict with the Lord of Time. Unbeknownst to the Justice League of America, Faust's spell lasted just long enough to release the Demons Three, after all, one thousand years in the future.
