JLI V.S Peraxxus The Evil Space Miner!

After this title becoming one of my favorites, I still love this series even if this issue needed just a little bit more to make it perfect

We start the issue with booster and batman being defeated by rock monsters who trapped them with what seems to be their version of number 2 from their fingers and quickly gets hard, making them unable to move. Them we see guy getting up after getting his butt kicked last time and complains more about booster when he arrives to the main deck of the ship and Peraxxus kicks his butt again as the words that are coming out of it’s alien mouth turn to English. He then transports himself with guy to where batman and booster are trapped and summons the rest of the team who were captured including---ah dammit! Not the general august!! He was doing so awesome last issue…..oh well moving on. While this new alien powerhouse explains that he wants the world’s entire minerals since he finds them really valuable, batman goes around asking who can get free from the hard stuff they are all in. Godiva finally being useful (not saying it in the wrong way since her powers kinda didn’t fit in any situation till now) uses her hair to get to batman’s belt which has something to get them out…which confuses it with his crotch. (Got me laughing pretty hard for how awesomely this overused joke was used in this situation) after getting a little devise that shoots a laser, we learn that this Paraxxus is really a miner…which kinda explains why is his weapon in the shape of a pickaxe. They all get free and charge together against this threat that plans to destroy the world like any good old alien bad guy, but since he is a cool looking villain that kinda reminds me of thanos…he beats up everyone with no trouble. He activates the giants which will start breaking down the planet so he can go around mining it ending the issue.

    The Good:

This is still a team book that I’m enjoying, the characters may not all be well established by now most of them we kinda have the hang of how they all and they are likable. This is the most lighthearted book out of all the DC teams and I love it. We also get to see our heroes finally facing this new enemy who shows that he can handle most of them easily. The team kinda needs more firepower, hope they get captain marvel later on since their heavy hitters consist of Booster, the general and Guy. Also I totally dig the evil space miner thing, in which other medium can you get away with something like that?

    The Bad:

Nothing notable but some parts of the artwork which made the characters look kinda different in some panels and the fact that Peraxxus' motives and the stuff about the giants wasn't as simple as it should had been

    Overall: 4/5

A good issue which I hope it gets better since this is my favorite team opening storyline of all the team books that I read (well Justice League isn’t bad, but I would had preferred the team all together by now). This is what good old superhero action is and I hope more people get to read it for what it truly is, just plain fun.

I am not really sure where this series is going or how it will get there, but if there is an interesting part of this series for me, its the breakdown of the characters.  With an international cast it adds an extra feeling of relevance to global threats, but I also enjoy the breakdown along gender lines, with one of the best representation of female characters this side of Birds of Prey.  Since starting to read this I have been kind of curious of Godiva.  The character whose only ability is preh...

The Good: Aaron Lopresti's artwork continues to be excellent. He does such a great job with a series like JLI that needs a versatile art style to fit a wide variety of character. Lopresti's art does that. The fight scenes are really cool, with a nice balance of characters being focused on in combat. They work surprisingly well as a team, making it more tense when Peraxxus STILL smacks them down as a unit. The backstory we get into for Peraxxus is actually filled with an incredibly deep weath of i...
