Look out, Marvel Studios! It appears that Warner Bros. is also aiming to create a cohesive movieverse for their comic book properties. While chatting with IGN, Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro confirmed an old rumor -- he's working on a DC movie currently being called Dark Universe.

I'm writing the outline and we already are in talks with a writer. A very, very good writer. I think people are going to be happy with who we have chosen and he accepted.

Regarding the roster, the director named Swamp Thing, The Demon, Deadman, John Constantine, The Spectre, Zatanna and Zatara.

When asked if the success of The Avengers motivated Warner Bros to move forward with their comic properties, del Toro says the studio had plans before Marvel's team-up dominated the box office.

Del Toro would be perfect for a JLA Dark (ish) adaption... Strange that it seems it might come out a year or so after the original JLA. Would have thought it would be years after (if at all).

I have faith in Del Toro, but i'll believe this movie is happening when I see a trailer.

Don't get me wrong this project sounds magnificent and right up my alley but you gotta wonder does no one in Hollywood want to make a movie based on DC heavy hitters ? Or did Green Lantern kill that interest ?

Ok its really cool that Del Toro is going to make this but I'm I think only one that thinks JLD is an odd choice for a movie? I mean the books sales are not that high and a casual movie goer would know none of the characters. I am looking forward to it but I am confused.

Could be good but there would be some set up needed if it is only one movie especially if Man of Steel and Justice League are successful.

The winking face means you're kidding right? Right? RIGHT?! I trust Guillermo Del Toro to finally give the fans an accurate John Constantine. The LEAST he can do is keep him friggin' British. However, the blonde hair and chain smoking would do nicely as well. Haven't read a single issue of JLD (namely because of the rebooting of Constantine) but I'm excited about this.

This type of project is a complete waste of time for a director like Del Toro,but what the heck it certainly has more potential that a regular JL movie. It's exactly because these characters haven't been done to death that make it easier to attract the wider non comic fan audience. No preconcieved notions ,and thank the lord, no Wonder Woman.

I will have very high expectations for the use of these characters.

That is a good point and frankly I feel the same way.

Del Toro takes for.......ev.........er............to complete things, but I hope this goes like he says it is. Having a director in line is HUGE. I hope it's him actually. I bet they throw Swamp Thing in cast too. Del Toro likes monsters and Swamp Thing in it only makes sense. Plus, I bet the agile kung fu guy who played the bad vampire in Blade 2, and the bad guy prince in Hellboy 2 gets a roll.

This could be everything from very disappointing, just being lame (as most comic movies) to super-awesome and best adaption ever. However, this could also be a brilliant b-movie... Ed Wood-style (Bela Lugosi would be a great Constantine btw).

I'm in for this... if it will ever happen and no matter which version. :)

Not really! He has a minor role in the JLD Annual #1 (which is a great story nonetheless) and has yet to appear in the regular issues of the New52's JLD.

Can we also get Andrew Bennet in on this? If only to force DC to keep I, Vampire around as long as possible.

Guillermo Del Toro is known for taking a very long time to make his movies. Considering how long his list of movies are, one's that haven't been released or filmed, it would be a while before this even reaches 'developmental' phase. Though I will say this he better make a Hellboy 3.

I hope they do this right.
