hyenascar's Justice League Dark Annual #1 - War for the Books of Magic, Conclusion review

Still my love, but a little off

The continuation of Justice League #13, in which Nick Necro and his team vs. John Constantine and his team race for the Books of Magic.

Art: I love the colors, and the drawing is generally good, but some of the drawing looks for lack of better knowledge, rushed.

An Amalgam of second Tier Dc characters:

I love the appearance of new characters from the whole 52 realm. Frankenstein can be interesting, Andrew Bennett comes back for at least an issue, and Amethyst is there. (Honestly know nothing of her, but willing to give her a chance.) Bennett really had no reason to be there. He seemed superfluous and because of his appearance and demeanor, meant that all of this had to take place before the current arc of I, Vampire. So basically more trouble than worth. The truth of this team, with Constantine steering the ship so to speak, is that a lot of supernatural characters would pop in and out of the story at all times. Bring on the characters, it's fun interacting with them all.

Some Ugliness?: So let's evaluate this fairly. The reveal of how Nick Necro got back from Hell has to be revealed somehow, right?

    Right?

Hell yeah! So let's get the whole back story through a cliche. Have the villain reveal the plot, his motivation, recap how he was wronged, his endgame, and ultimately how conceited he is to reveal this to his tied up hero.

I get it, you need to move the story forward and you need to tie up some loose ends. All can be forgiven, however Nick's telling of the story is bland, seems rushed, and it's followed up with the big reveal. Which is............;...........Ugggghhhh

For those who haven't read it I will leave out spoilers. I will say that it goes against what we learned in the first couple of issues, doesn't really make since, and is a very bad attempt at making Nick more important in the story when it is not needed. Why do writers try to make everything related. Very unfortunate, and very annoying.

    Mixed messages..... but.....

It felt rushed, but this story still is exciting. I sounded out a few worries and complaints, but I still enjoyed it. This has created a huge well of possibilities that can be explored. Most importantly, this has a wealth of characters, that I truly want to know more about. The events at the end of the comic make for an important plot device that anyone who likes this series needs to see, and overall will enjoy. It's just a little bit of bumpy ride.

With all the nice things getting said about this series since Jeff Lemire took over writing duties since issue 9, combined with the release of the new Constantine series, I decided to get the back issues of this, and boy am I happy I have. It's been phenomenal, and one of the most unique series I've seen in the New 52, and I'm glad I've given it a try.PlotAfter The House of Mystery crashed in the Sahara the remaining of the Justice League Dark regroup, and with the help of Frankenstein and Ameth...

THE GOOD: Mikel Janin has become one of my favorite artist due to his amazing work on this series. He manages to convey more emotion then many other artist in my opinions. Even the character in the background have an expression and it just make you feel like even though the character isn't talking, they are still thinking and reasoning what is going on. The story was also phenomenal. First they add Frankenstein to the team (a great decision) and then Amethyst and it just ends in a wild fight tha...
