microwave25's Justice League #4 - Justice League, Part Four review

    Still at introductions.

Art: Too much. There is no doubt Jim Lee is a majorly talented artist but I am not really warming to the huge production he's constructing for Justice League. I just feel the panels are overly complicated and sometimes hard to breakdown, blinding sometimes with all their colour. I know this is Justice League and it needs to be BIG but some of the sequences are just too much.

Plot: More introductions. The JL continue to make mashed potatoes of the horde they are facing. Aquaman is firmly introduced as a strong, assertive character and Cyborg takes to the streets. Not much goes on, in fact most of the team stand in exactly the same position that they left off in issue 3. Ends nicely with a badass looking Darkseid.

I'm really not trying to hate on JL here but I just think the series has been a bit chaotic up till until this point. Now that all the characters have shown their respective faces maybe the series will settle and begin to really take shape and direction. I liked Aquaman in this issue (that scene with the sharks was just brilliant), he's a leader and isn't afraid to take control of the situation. Still not sure about Cyborg, his robotic seizures were a bit off putting.

Anyway I was not mad on this issue. It was just one big fireball. Too much action and not enough plot / character progression which is always the problem with team comics. I mean Geoff Johns really didn't have to input much into this issue and hopefully next month will firmly take the reigns and give us a story.

This is not the most refined title coming out of the new 52, but it is one of the more entertaining.  While other series are going for intrigue or character development, this one is going for just flat out action, essentially becoming the summer blockbuster of the new titles.  With all the other heroes getting their chance at being showcased, now its Aquaman's turn with his entrance from the harbour an indication both that the threat is more widespread and that he is an equal of the others heroe...

Aquaman's Awesome, But Doesn't Add Much Depth 0

The Good: This is a generally great cover, nice balance and eveything; and the character fighting on the cover properly represent what's happening in the issue; but upon closer inspection, I see that the entire League is actually present in some form. That's even better.Jim Lee's on art. It's great.I saw some complaints about Aquaman's instant declaration of leadership at the end of the previous issue, but he explains it in exactly the same way I did. He's a KING. He knows how to lead. He's bein...
