The team from yesterday; today? Wait, what? JL 3000 Review
The old Justice League you know and love is now a thousand years in the future. That should be fun, right?
THE GOOD
It's the hand they were dealt. Everyone that's a DC Comics fan, loves the Justice League in some past or present interpretation. So why not a future one? Well there are good and bad reasons why this is an ok comic instead of a great one.
First of all, I greatly enjoy a League set years in the future with an ideal of these heroes living once in the past, but died doing what they do best; protecting the innocent. The concept of bringing the same lovable characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman etc and turning them into clones is a nice ideal to play around with. It allows a little character development and a push in a different direction that can't be done in mainstream series like BATMAN or SUPERMAN, OR JUSTICE LEAGUE.
The artwork by Howard Porter took me a little time to get used to, but once the Justice League arrived on scene I knew they were in a good artist's hands. It just took me seeing what the Justice League looks like inside of the comic for me to know that it's a great path Porter is taking with the style of art.
THE BAD
While the ideal of clones is partly good, it's also kind of bad. When I first heard about this series, I thought it was going to be totally different people being the iconic characters we know and love. Like Batman One Million and Superman One Million. Heroes we've heard about, but haven't seen much of. That's who I thought the heroes was going to be. However, it's not. It's just Bruce, Clark, Diana, Barry, and Hal of present day. Just dead and brought back to life in clone form. This would be the great means of a story if they didn't know they were clones, but they know they are clones of the original. So there goes a bunch of interesting stories that could've been made. I do like the idea of clones, but I also strongly dislike it as well as it could've been handled differently.
Also the beginning of this story was a bit confusing. I'm still trying to understand what is occurring and who really are the good guys, and I'm sure it's not JL 3000. At least not yet.
THE VERDICT
You either love the JL or you either tolerate them. I mean, this is the New 52, there is Justice League Dark, Justice League, and Justice League of America (which is like the Suicide Squad if they wanted to work exclusively for America). So if you can tolerate more JL, then try this series out. There is some parts in this series that will make you smile to yourself and say, "that was pretty smart" (like seeing Superman and Batman basically slander each other's name). The story needs to pick up a bit more before I'm really hooked, but I'm looking forward to the issues to come. Overall 3 out of 5.
