Does the Justice League have a Battlecry? 7

Batman is chasing an alien or a monster. Green Lantern, a cocky, self-absorbed hero, helps him. Together, they investigate this seemingly intergalactic mystery and they decide to go ask other aliens on Earth.  The Good Adventure: The book finally has a sense of adventure again. It's not just a bunch of heroes who have known each other for what seems millennia and just sit about in their big tower or satellite or cave and wait for the next alien so that they may go and punch it in the face. So wh...

Drawn by an Expert, Written by a Fanboy 38

FTBB comes back for a review, after months on hiatus. Now, as many of you may know, I'm something of a DC Fanboy. Not a moronic one, mind you, I just prefer DC to the other companies. That's in no small part thanks to the amazing team known as the Justice League. What we have with this issue is not the Justice League; we have a series of disconnected characters with no real personalities in flashy costumes arguing about who has the bigger d*** (the answer is Batman, of course).   Geoff Johns goe...

A Solid Start For The New 52 0

Synopsis  Set five years before the formation of the Justice League, in a time where superheroes are looked upon with suspicion and mistrust. The opening of the series involves Batman and Green Lantern Hal Jordan meeting for the first time.   The Good  I must start with the cover, and it's a doozy. Although at this early stage half of those on the front aren't actually in the issue, it's a solid representation of the Justice League to-be and a nice eyecatcher to boot.   The internal art is just ...

The Beginning of the DCnU 0

I’m known for stories that build off the rich continuity that DC has. So when the idea of an entire line-wide relaunch was discussed, I knew it would stir controversy, which I’ve never been a big fan of. I knew it would change characters I was already comfortable with. And I knew I would have to completely re-think how I was going to approach everything I was writing. But I also knew it was a chance for every writer and artist to turn their focus on the one other thing that makes DC great:...

    Old and New 0

The story starts five years ago in Gotham City as Batman encounters a strange creature on the rooftops. It's not long before the police label them both a threat, because in this new DC Universe super-heroes are just showing up, and they're not welcomed. After a tangle with the robotic creature, Batman is saved by Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who encounters Batman for the first time. The two of them investigate the incident further by traveling to Metropolis to question Superman, but find themselves...

Yes, this is a success 0

DC has problems. It's consistently second to Marvel, but both of them are going down slowly and gradually in sales. So how do you fix this? You need to start to reverse the trend and get new fans again. But DC's other problem in my opinion is not just that it has a long continuity. So does Marvel. It's that its continuity is so bizarre and reworked and inexplicable that it distracts from everything they have that's good. So they've cleaned it up once and for all. Now Hawkman can finally not be a...

    51 more to go! 0

While I usually really love Justice League books, I'm not exactly sure that this going to be a traditional Justice League book. No Martian Manhunter and this slow wind up mark this book as perhaps a little slower burn than usual. Also while I love Jim Lee and Geoff Johns, I like how the handle the whole team once its together better than these little vignettes. So I am definitely looking forward to the things to come. I also, really enjoy books where the heroes and law enforcement don't play wel...

The First of the Fifty-Two 0

After months of teasing and waiting Justice League #1 finally hits Local Comic Shops and stores all around the world. Does Justice League live up to it's high expectations?   THE GOOD: With Geoff Johns and Jim Lee on creative duties, it seems like this comic book will be perfect, and it almost is! Justice League #1 retells the origin of how the team formed. The story is good. It's Geoff Johns so I expected that, but I really liked how he he wrote Green Lantern's cockiness and Batman. It was said...

    A New Universe Dawns 1

And so begins the Post-Flashpoint DC Universe. And honestly...thus far, the changes have been relatively subtle. The new/old Justice League isn't especially awe-inspiring, but it is competent storytelling from two master comic creators that establishes that the more things change, the more they stay the same. The story here is pretty simple boilerplate: this is telling the new origin of the current version of Justice League, set five years in the past from modern day, in a time before the world k...

Wacky Roommate Comedy 7: Batman and Green Lantern 1

The Good: Jim Lee on art. You can't deny that he does great work. Watching Green Lantern and Batman interact 'for the first time' is pretty interesting. Both are going out of their way to show that they're better than the other without being obvious about it. Batman wins for subtlety. That thing they fight (Parademon maybe?) is pretty awesomely designed.  This issue gives off a very good vibe of 'Superheroes are new in this world and people don't trust them.' The whole setup is great for 'the fi...

Back Again for the First Time 0

Time to set the moodAaaaah the Justice League , a team franchise that brings back many fond memories ^_^………of which none have come from reading a single comic book. Sad I know, but I’d like to think I would get into JL sooner or later, it just had to be at the right moment. Then along comes the DCnU relaunch………….whiiiiiiich doesn’t exactly feel right, for a lot of us. But hey, it’s been a while since the JL felt like DC’s flagship title (again) and with Earth’s Mightiest books lacking in quality ...

    Justice League issue 1 3

Well, its the beginning of a new age in DC Comics as Justice League issue 1 is released today. Let me begin by saying that Geoff Johns writing is amazing and with the help of Jim Lee's art it is bound to be a great book. This is the book to kick everything off in the new 52 and I'm excited for next months issue.   The Good - As I stated earlier Geoff Johns and Jim Lee did a great job.  - When Hal Jordan and Batman bet for the first time was a very memorable moment as the 2 try to escape cops tha...

It is a brand new begging for Dc comics, and what a amazing start off with the Justice League. Well....what more could i ask. The comic was awesome. I think that im starting to see what potential this new revamp has in store for all of us. Bats, and GL certainly kicked things off fast though.   The Good Well this comic was amazing from the first page to the last. At the begging we can see that Batman is chasing what appeared to me at first, a lizard man....so of course i thought it was killer Cr...

Honestly, Green Lantern #9 Was Better. 0

The first of the 52 relaunches, Justice League begins to retell the origin of the Justice League but does so in a slow and relatively unimaginative fashion that leaves it falling far short of enormous expectations. This is supposed to be it. This is our introduction to the New 52 and the new DC Universe with all its new perspectives and new relevancy. So why is there so little in this issue that feels... new?For the most part, this issue merely retells the first meeting of Green Lantern and Batman...

Old school fun with a bold, fresh feel. Fantastic! 2

The biggest obstacle facing Justice League #1 was the massive amount of hype surrounding it. It has been heralded as the foundation that the entire New 52 world is built upon. DC put together the super creative team of Geoff Johns and Jim Lee to handle the book. It had an entire week where the spotlight was only on it (well, and Flashpoint #5). In other words, it was built up by expectations that it couldn't possibly meet. Or could it?  Let me just say it, I loved this issue and if this is any ...

Reviewing The Justice League... a little sauced 0

So, I was going to make some snarky comment about Geoff Johns writing Brave and the Bold stories, but someone beat me to it and then some (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/08/30/review-justice-league-1-by-geoff-johns-and-jim-lee/). Seriously, though, I get that Batman’s hands down the most popular DC character but that doesn’t mean you have to lead with him every single time you set down to write a script. We already had the Batman/Flash team-up in Flashpoint, so do we really need the Batman/Gre...

It is the beginning of something new! It's the beginning of a brave new comic world! And another chance to retell the stories of DC Comics characters!  The GoodThe DC Comics continuity has undergone multiple crisis, and events, that've changed the way we look at comics published by DC. While 'New 52' gives new readers a great chance to jump on, it is a good opportunity to read the origins of the Justice League. While we all know the stories of the J.L.A. it is almost like we are learning all abo...

Just doesn't feel like an event. 4

This is it, the DCnU, the end of an era and the start of a new one. God I wish I could say this had started with a bang. I’m just going to say this right away I’m not a fan of the Justice League. In any normal situation I wouldn’t even think about picking up a Justice League comic but this is special so I did.So on to the plot breakdown.Awesome Art Moment #1Five years ago (from the rest of the DCnU) Batman is hunting down a transforming-robot-thing, but Batman is also being hunted down by the Go...

    A Great Beginning 0

The first issue of 52 new series from DC Comics finally arrives. Much anticipation and speculation towards the success and possible failure over this reboot has gone on since its first announcement, rightfully so I might add. Geoff Johns and Jim Lee pilot the new Justice League series which is suppose to serve as the company's flagship title.  I had high expectations for this series myself and I'm thankful to say I wasn't disappointed in the slightest at the outcome of the first issue. Johns nic...

The New Dc Comics is here starting with Justice League 3

Cover I liked the cover for this issue and I think that Jim Lee did a great job with all the new costume ideas. It is similar to the old ones but different all at the same time, which I really enjoyed. Story Green Lantern, Batman, Cyborg, and Superman meet for the first time. Best Part I liked seeing that they are starting this series 5 years in the past that way we can see how all the heroes met in the reboot and that way we can get to see character development very quickly. We g...

    It has started... 0

Okay so I liked the concept of having the original Justice League reunited. Especially after noticing that the last formation was really like a tribute to the original seven. Supergirl replacing Superman. Dick Grayson being the new Batman. Donna Troy replacing Wonder Woman. Jesse Quick replacing the Flash. Jade replacing Green Lantern. Starman reminded me a bit of Martian Manhunter and Congorilla filled out the last spot much like Aquaman, Hawkgirl, and some others have done in the past. But now...

The Justice League has been the biggest DCNU book and Geoff Johns & Jim Lee things can't go wrong right? Well they do. Good! Batman is a beast in this issue and there is a scene(very vague considering their really the only characters in the issue) with Green Lantern in which SPOILERS SINCE IT'S PROBABALLY STORY WISE THE BEST PART OF THE STORY! This wasn't a let down, I was expecting a disaster like this. 3

The new DC Universe kicks off with a mediocre start. The only thing this issue has going on is the art, and it overall feels like an old WildC.A.T.S. issue, it doesn't really seem to have a plot or direction, it only tries to establish what we already knew about his characters in the exact same way they were before. So, what is the point of the reboot then???...

If This is the Dawn of a New Era - I'm Unimpressed. 0

What the Hell? This looks like an Image comic from the early '90s. I finally decide to come back to mainstream D.C. with this much ballyhooed 'New 52', and this is what I get?  They. Just. Don't. Get. It. This all-style / no-substance stuff just doesn't play for long. Eye candy is great, but what happened to good storytelling? This issue reminds me of those big budget Hollywood summer Special Effects Extravaganzas that dispense with such trifles as plot.  The issue opens with Batman chasing s...

New Comicbook Readers Thoughts on JL #1 2

First off let me say that DC has already done something right. I have always been attracted to Superheroes and their respective stories ever since I can remember. However, I never got into comic books like I wanted too. The reasoning for this was simple, I was too overwhelmed by the deep and complex stories that each hero had and I knew that by just picking up the newest issue of whatever comic I desired would leave me feeling confused and unsatisfied. Then I herd that DC was starting their icon...

DC has a new reader!! 0

Well one of the reasons that DC wanted to change up the universe and have 52 new books is to get new readers on board. You know what? They got me on the band Wagon. I loved the book. I loved the art and I love the fresh new looks on the characters. I am sorry for folks out there who do not like this change because of what you are used to. However for me since I never collected DC in the past it gets me a chance to see how everthing begins and to get familar with these classic charaters. Now I am...

The New DC Universe Begins 0

My first New DCU review! Yay!  The new Justice League reveals its origins to the world.  After a small fight with the Gotham Police Department, Batman has his first encounter with Green Lantern. The two escape from the GCPD and go to the sewers, where they find a Parademon installing a Father Box in a wall. After surviving the Parademon's suicide attack, Batman and Green Lantern take the Father Box and go to Metropolis, hoping that Superman can tell them anything about it.  Arriving at Metropoli...

The months of hype are over. The flagship title of the DCnU, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee's new Justice League #1 is now available to all those willing. So, what is the verdict?  In this debut, we experience the first meeting between Bruce Wayne and Hal Jordan as they pursue a fresh take on Parademon through Gotham and then decide to go look up Superman in Metropolis, while we get a brief interlude of Vic Stone before he becomes Cyborg.  The majority of this issue focuses on the Batman and Green Lant...

Batman + Green Lantern = The Start of Something Awesome!! 0

It is the kickoff of something fantastic!   The comic league of Jim Lee, Scott Williams and Geoff Johns has done justice to the first issue.  The veteran team proves why they are at the top of their professions.  The story starts out with a bat-bang and keeps you well entertained, but at the same time doesn't rush to take you along too fast and it does not confuse the reader with too many story lines.  It is just masterful and I see why Johns was the people's choice winner for storytelling.  The...

    A Perfect Start 0

As a disclaimer, I am one of the hardcore DC fanboys. I make no secret of the fact that I am a reader that would follow Geoff Johns wherever he goes. My excitement for the New 52 is palpable.  With that in mind, my expectations for this issue were naturally rather high, and despite this I was pointedly impressed by this first outing. From that first panel, the visual element of the artistic team drew me in and reminded me of my first days as a comic book reader, awestruck in the wonder that thes...

This is not what I ordered 0

If Flashpoint has taught me anything is that Geoff Johns will sometimes write comics that aren't great. I was really disappointed with how Flashpoint worked as a whole and especially how Johns writes Batman (Thomas/Bruce). This leads into my review of Justice League #1. I still don't like the way Johns writes Batman (to me it's seems too Frank Millar) and although he's written all of the other members of the League separately in varying amounts I'm not confident that he's a good fit for a book t...

    Perfect DC Universe Relaunch 0

This issue places the Justice League in a world where super heroes have never existed so Johns can examine how our modern world would deal with the sudden appearance of super powered beings.  I'm not sure if DC dealt with this back in the 30s and 40s during the Golden Age.  But we're in a much more cynical time.  People aren't going to assume that super heroes will be benevolent.  In Batman's case, this more or less matches the latest reboot where he was trying to keep himself as a scary rumor i...

This review was originally posted on my Wordpress.  Click HERE if you don't believe me!  But seriously, do...It is a officially here, ladies and gentleman. Call it a re-boot, a re-launch, a travesty or a blessing, but DC's "New 52" has finally arrived. And So It Begins 0

The World's Greatest Super Heroes are back as The Justice League of America!  Well, sort of. They're beginning to meet each other, at least. The opening arc of the premier issue of DC Comics's New 52 initiative seems to revolve around how they meet, which makes sense - how members interact and why they do so is an essential part of any team! The events in Justice League, at the moment, actually take place 5 years before the streamlined DCnU. At this point, the world doesn't really know about sup...

Launch of The NEw 52 0

Huston, we have a problem. This comic is a horrible start for DC's New 52. This comic is boring. 90% of it is Green Lantern and Batman yelling at each other for no good reason and nothing happens. Also, the Justice League isn't in this comic. Only Batman, Green Lantern, Superman and Cyborg appear and the latter two have cameos. The Silver Age Legion of Super Hero comics which had one-dimensional characters, insane plot point and bizarre idea thrown to the mix was better than this. The art is not...

    The New Age 0

An excellent beggining issue for the new 52 universe. It starts well, with two of the most iconic DC characters taking the lead role on this issue. The rivalry between G.L. and Batman shows immature teamwork soon to become a great friendship. The art is great and the ending is quite impressive. Definitely a must buy. 10/10....

StoryFor those going into this issue with the expectation of seeing all the members of the Justice League, I have to warn you that this one is very much centered upon Batman and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), with pre-Cyborg Victor Stone and Superman making small appearances. Geoff Johns is taking his time to build the individual relationships of each character, and so it'll require patience and time to see how each of the characters have been changed with this relaunch and how they come into their...

Just another Geoff Johns' reboot 0

So I give in and I am reviewing the 52.  Being late to the party this review likely will be buried with the many review for this issue and why read mine?  Everyone has something to say and I don't think mine is ground breaking for this issue, since Geoff Johns does not write cryptic comics I cannot have cryptic comments.  Jim Lee's Pencil work is world class and Scott Williams makes Lee's Pencil's sing. So the art I cannot complain about at all.  As for the story this is a story intended to be a...
