When it comes to thinking about a Judge Dredd movie, it's hard not to think about the 1995 version with Sylvester Stallone. Thankfully the new version due this September with Karl Urban and Lena Headey looks really good so far.

Yesterday CBM posted a new picture for the movie. Last I heard, Urban was going to be keeping the helmet on the entire movie. That's how it should be.

I like it but I don't love it. It has a little too much padding. It's understandable why he'd want it but still. Regardless, it looks better than what we've seen before.

== TEASER ==

CBM also posted the banner and high-res images of previously released ones.

In case you missed it off my Twitter feed, I posted this model I assembled and painted way back in 1993. I still have it (you can see the dust).

Do you prefer the armored movie version or the sleeker comic one?

Edit

Still better than this:

I still can't stand the design. His head looks ridiculous.

Well that is how is supposed to look. Unlike the Sylvester Stallone version which he wore the helmet for 15 minutes I think. In the comics he never removed the helmet.

I liek it, sure the helmet looks alittle big but designwise the costume is pretty good. Loof forward to seeing it.

That very well may be. I don't think I've ever read a Judge Dredd comic, but at least in all the comic book images I've seen of him, I don't ever think, "Wow! What a huge head!" That's all I can think every time I see the live action version. Maybe things just look silly in real life that look cool in comics, or maybe they made the helmet to big, or maybe the lack of huge shoulder pads makes the head look better in comparison, or maybe it is just my own personal hang up, but it looks silly to me.

Don't love all the jacket panels, but it's still a pretty sweet design!

I hope this isn't terrible, but that costume doesn't instill confidence.

I hope to Garth that this film will make 2000AD popular in the states.

I want there to finally be the ABC Warriors in the US, along with Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog, Nemesis the Warlock (reprints since it ended years ago)

And PLEASE let there be Mean Machine Angel and the Angel Gang in the Dredd film. I don't want to live my life only seeing one guy take the helm of Mean. (although he was great....he really didn't bring much to the table)

Does Judge Dredd ever have stubble? That seems weird to me somehow.

The I am the Law Anthrax song is one of my all-time favorites.

@Superguy0009e: I like to think the moment he screams this, the people at background are reacting to Stallones' acting.

A Strontium Dog movie would be fantastic! I think that the helmet was always going to look bigger in real life. Overall I think they've done a pretty good job with the outfit.

I liked the Stallone film too. Looking forward to this.

#28 Posted by ltbrd (505 posts) - 11 months, 15 days ago - Show Bio

Much, much better look than the Stallone version and even the comic book. He looks like a cop. Yeah the helmet seems a bit cumbersome but I can live with it. If the helmet actually has some features, like infrared, a microphone (like Stallone's helmet had) or radio system than the size could be more justified and give it a more futuristic feel. But even without any technology the larger helmet still makes the person wearing it not truly look human or in some way different, which brings an atmosphere to the Judge that I think is automatically conveyed in the comic book but you can't do in real life with a ridiculous costume like the Stallone version. In this case I think trying to be too true to the source is a detriment to the film so thumbs up to the director and design team for giving something that we can instantly recognize as something a cop/soldier of the future might wear in addition to making a Judge seem more than human.

Other than crossovers, I have never read Judge Dredd, which is probably why I loved the Stallone movie. I thought Stallone looked the part, but did wish he had kept the danged helmet on. Not because I hate Stallone, but because I've never seen the character without it.

He doesn't smile in any of the images. Weird. Dredd is always such a cheerful dude in the comics.

My only exposure to Judge Dredd was the old Genesis game. I got stuck and haven't looked back at the character since.

Well, at least til today. Now I need to see the old movie based on that clip alone.

It Looks like a cosplay costume,But maybe they'll modify it later in development.Hopefully if they spend nearly all their time trying to make a futuristic Utopian looking city they should show it for more than a few seconds.

LOL, so you don't like Judge Dredd, we get it. NEXT!

Glade to see that it looks like they are trying to honor the source. Although technically the actor should be a lot taller and lankier. Still looks sweet so far.

I have absolutely zero interest in this film, though it's good to hear that he won't be taking the helmet off. That's one thing that irks me about the Spidey films, was that his mask was getting ripped off in every fight scene.

#49 Posted by pikahyper (6644 posts) - 11 months, 15 days ago - Show Bio

I for one am not reassured :( that costume looks too bulky. I don't know why everyone is always so down on the first movie I loved it.

You've been able to buy all of those as trade paperbacks in the US for years, Rebellion puts them out , comic stores can order them they just don't, look on the 2000ad site to find out what is available and go to your LCS and special order them, they'll probably want some money down but its worth it cause they are beautiful trades with great extra content.
