Last week we saw a new image for Dredd, the new Judge Dredd reboot movie along with the movie's banner and other images. A new poster has also been released along with some new movie stills courtesy of Lionsgate/Reliance Entertainment.

This isn't the same Judge Dredd we saw in theaters back in 1995.

What exactly will the movie be about besides a man who is a judge, jury and executioner? Here's the official synopsis in case you missed it before:

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

Sounds promising. The movie was written by Alex Garland and will be directed by Peter Travis. The movie was filmed in 3D and opens in theaters on Friday, September 21, 2012.

Looks badass. Let's hope he doesn't take off his helmet.

Well just from the description and stills I'm liking this version better already. This is what a good Judge Dredd movie should be....just a day in the life of Judge Dredd. We don't need some big set-up where the entire world changes based on Dredd's actions (what is the point of setting up the idea of the Judges and the Council if you're just going to kill off most of their structure anyways), just a film that let's us watch Dredd do what he does best and call it a day at the end.

The look of the uniforms and the mood of the stills is great. The uniform may not mirror the comic book, but I think it evokes the same feelings and ideas.

Garland wrote for the Metal Gear Solid comics if memory serves...if he's on board it shoulc be good

While it sounds like a good movie, I'm a little disappointed. I heard a while back that Judge Death was supposed to be in the movie. He's my favorite Judge Dredd villain. Oh well. The movie still sounds good. And maybe Death would be good for a sequel.

This is the first time I've read a synopsis for this movie and it sounds promising, and the pics look great too. I've never read the comic book but I like the look of the uniform, cause it looks plausible while the one from the first film looked purely like a costume.

I'd like to see Death in a sequel and the Dark Judges in a third film. Introducing Dredd first actually makes more sense.

Actually Leonard McCoy, not Black Hat.

I can already tell that this and the Total Recall remake are going to blow their predecessors out of the water, the only question is out the two which will be better. and OMG Lena Heady as the female antagonist in this film and Kate Beckinsale in Total Recall, I mean does it get any hotter!?

I wouldn't mind some scenes where he has the helmet off in his downtime but definitely keep it on when he's working.

So Dredd is basically after users of depressant drugs? lol Because that's exactly what Slo-Mo sounds like to me. The war against Ma-Ma and the Judges I like. And that poster is...I MUST have that poster. Its just amazing.

This is looking real good. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

I have to agree with most of whats already been said, this looks way better than the 1995 movie already. I understand writing a new story that hasnt ever in any book, I just hope it stays true to his personality and characterization. High hopes for Dredd in general this year, hopefully this movie is good and the new stuff coming from IDW Publishing later this year is good too.

shame about the scaled back shoulder pads but still its promising to do dredd justice. so much potential in the 2000ad universe for movies,strontium dogs,durham red,sinister dexter heres hoping this does well

Movie synopsis sounds fantastic. Hopefully the actual film delivers the story well. With Urban and Heady leading the way, I don't see how it can't!
