2000AD To Become Available At Local Comic Shops Weekly

For American and Canadian fans of 2000AD, it's been a waiting game for as long as they can remember. The only way for North American readers to obtain the British publication (which has been a weekly publication in Great Britain for nearly 35 years) is to order a $20 pack each month. However if you love 2000AD and have always wanted to read it weekly, we have good news for you.

The publisher of the popular series announced on their website earlier today that they would be releasing 2000AD weekly all across North America. The publication will now be available to order through Diamond Distributors.

No more waiting for $20 packs every month, you can now order EACH new weekly issue of 2000 AD direct from Diamond – arriving just two weeks after hitting stores in the UK.

But wait, that's not all. Those of you that love 2000AD's Judge Dredd Megazine will be pleased to learn that it will now be available across 400 Barnes and Nobles bookstores throughout North America. That's more Judge Dredd than you could have ever dreamed of, am I right? The "megazine" combines a variety of comics by top creators as well as features, interviews and movie reviews all in one and will be available monthly. While the 2000AD comic book will still be about two weeks behind the British release, fans of the books will still have the chance to get them weekly at their comic shops which is good news. 2000AD will be available at local comic shops weekly starting on October 19th, 2011.

== TEASER ==

News of this weekly release may have something to do with the recent rumors about an upcoming Judge Dredd movie, presently in the works to be released in September, 2012. No doubt, the publisher wants to capitalize on the film's release by making the comic more readily available in North America. Pretty smart move, we'd say. Add that to the rumor that Grant Morrison is currently writing a Rogue Trooper screenplay (based on the popular 2000AD character) and we think that 2000AD is wasting no time at all.

What do you think of the weekly 2000AD release? Are you looking forward to picking up Judge Dredd's Megazine and 2000AD at your local comic shops?

Thanks to Damswedon for the heads up!

I believe this turn of events epitomizes the definition of Irony; during the 80s the comics industry in the U.K industry was flooded by American comics and an exodus of talent ensued. Now U.K comics are being exported to the U.S.A. Either i moan too much, or could this be history repeating itself?

About bleeding time you lot got some decent Sci-Fi Comics that didn't involve under pants on the outside.

Now all you need is some proper quality translations of the Euro comics and you're Golden.

Not to ruin the mood but we've been trying to do this for years and admittedly the publication deal with DC a couple years ago went sour but we've offered culture sites (who will remain unnamed) the opportunity to go on our mailing list so that they could review the progs, which would in turn generate the demand (and if the market is established in the states, it means we can justify publishing the progs with knowledge that it won't nose dive). As great as this is it's sad to know it could have happened a lot earlier.

o.O they used to offer 2000AD weekly through Diamond up until a few years ago, the pack system has only been around since like 2009, why in the world are they making such a big deal about finally going back to the way it used to be???

And part of the reason they switched to the pack system (at least this is what I've been told by people at Diamond) is that the orders were not high enough to sustain it weekly and it wasn't meeting Diamonds pre-order cut-off so I don't know why Diamond is celebrating this o.o?

I'll totally check it out. Speaking of comic magazines, does anyone still read Heavy Metal? I watched the 1981 movie again (still rad) and I've been curious to see where it came from.

As much as I would love to get some Judge every week I'll continue getting it in trades and collections. Judge Dredd is all I'm really interested in and Magazines are obnoxious to store they don't fit in long boxes!

You lucky people are in for a treat! The latest Dredd epic 'Day of Chaos' is another John Wagner classic.
