    Respect the Badge...or not

I have never read a single Judge Dredd comic before the IDW relaunch. I planned on seeing the newest movie in theaters, but it opened and closed the same day, so I couldn't. I did buy the Blu-Ray though, and while I didn't like the villain that much, the movie was great. Dredd was a bad ass!

So where is that version of Dredd in this comic?

A privileged civilan is kidnapped. Mega City 1 is at high alert, and all of the judges are out to find him. Which they do, while he is shopping. So Dredd takes the missing man back to his wife and tells them to stop wasting resources. Well it turns out that the man WAS kidnapped and is currently being tortured by evil surgeons (that honestly look cool). Dredd says screw it, because the real man is safe, it's a clone being tortured.

    Wait.....what?

How would he all of a sudden assume that? I kept waiting for the twist that the real person is being tortured and the clone was back with the woman.

Anyway the kidnappers have been taking wealthy people all over the city, demanding large amounts of money. Some of these are dogs with cat heads (and played out meme captions on the page), and children, etc.

So in an Axe Cop moment of dialog, Dredd is going to deliver all the money to the kidnappers. I call it an Axe Cop moment because it is a massive amount of money , and the smallest bill is a one billion dollars. Another judge that appeared in issue one (did that storyline ever wrap up?) joins Dredd for the ride along. Bad news for the two judges though, the underworld found out about the amount of money, and are ready to strike.

Then we have a backup story that wasn't good at all, but might add to a future story.

In the movie Dredd, Judge Dredd is a force of nature. Shooting people in the face, taking down criminals in brutal ways, and not giving a frak until justice is served. To me that version of Dredd wouldn't put up with any of this nonsense.

I don't know. Maybe my expectations are off. Maybe I was expecting a character similar to the one from the film, but instead gets the Saturday Morning Cartoon version of that character.

You might enjoy this, but just expect a ton of cheese.
