Humans, Your Superior Intellect is No Match for Our Puny Weapons!
I thought Journey Into Mystery couldn't get any worse than last issue's 1/2 star fiasco.
I was wrong.
This time out, Thor has to fight a race of alien shapeshifters with names like 'Zano' and 'Ugarth'. This race has the power to assume any shape they want, and they pretty much have a ton of other powers at their disposal, like able to turn invisible at will, and able to shoot ice blasts from their hands. They also have a giant space armada at their disposal.
So what exactly is their plan conquer Earth?
"We are planting impersonators in key jobs throughout the city! Their job is to make foolish laws... to cause confusion and panic!"
Laws like: bridges need to be painted with polka dots.
"And after we have confused and frightened your entire civilization, then we shall attack and conquer you?"
What the Hell kind of retardo plan is that?
Not helping matters is the fact that Jack Kirby is gone, and the fill-in artist is terrible.
Even Mjolnir is off-model. Seriously, the thing looks like it was illustrated by a 5th grader.
Then there's the slipshod editing. This is an exact quote:
Yes, you read that right, even his strength can hold out much longer.
"Thor doesn't have a chance! Even his strength can hold out much longer!"
There's tons of other annoying stuff, like Thor physically throwing one foe out of the galaxy, etc., but let's just skip to the end. Thor's ultimate triumph? He convinces the shapeshifters to turn assume the form of trees. They think they are going to outwit him by turning into trees temporarily, then changing back when he doesn't expect it - but Thor has the last laugh, because he knows that the space men assume the properties of what they turn into, and of course, "trees can't think... so the idea of changing will never again occur to them!" Really? They fell for that one?
Ugh!
As if Thor vs. the stupidest aliens EVAR, wasn't bad enough, the Lee / Ditko backup feature is yet another anti-commie Red Scare propaganda piece.
Journey Into Mystery, indeed - Journey Into Mind-numbing Drek is more like it.
