The Tall Tale of Jonah Hex
The Story:
As two young brothers discuss a story they heard of how the legendary Jonah Hex killed ten men at once with a single shot, the oldest brother would find himself not believing the story because of how difficult it would be to accomplish such a feat and that the story came from a local drunk. When their father told the two boys not to go into town for the next couple of days because of Jonah Hex, both brothers would go against their fathers demands and sneak out into the night to see the actual Jonah Hex in person. But the two children would realize why it isn't a good idea to be anywhere near Jonah Hex and that they would have a night that they both will never forget.
The Good:
- The storyline of this issue was really interesting and very well placed for what it was trying to be. Placing a character like Jonah Hex as a Tall Tale that is told throughout many people of events and situations that are naturally unbelievable. I would actually label this issue unique and has reached its goal of describing itself as a Tall Tale. Despite the fact that Jonah Hex isn't the focused character, his role in this issue didn't fail in any form or way.
- The artwork was both good and bad for me, despite its cartoonish like nature, I did like the expressions, the reaction, and some of the scenes within this comic, my most favorite scene was when it shows Jonah Hex killing the ten men at once with a single shot.
- The dialogue was great and very supportive, just about every character didn't give me the impression that they were out of place, even with its supposed western time setting.
- I really found myself enjoying Jonah Hex's character in this issue, very interesting and unique. I really enjoyed how he interacted with the other characters in this issue. Alot of character respect is seen in this issue and that is actually a highlight for me.
- I honestly am not a fan of western comics of any form, as I tried to pick up a western comic that was actually a Marvel title I would find myself,....................bored and that the comic was lacking alot of relation to the western age. Because of that, I would never find myself touching another western related comic again till I decided to pick this issue up.
- The cover was the reason I picked this issue up, I really like the cover and how Jonah Hex is drawn.
The Bad:
- As I said, the artwork was both good and bad for me, when I first opened this issue I quickly closed it and moved to the next issue I bought because of the cartoonish artwork I saw in this comic. Deciding to give this comic a chance and try to enjoy it for what it is, I would actually find myself upset at the fact that I was too picky because of the artwork.
The Ugly:
Nothing ugly at all with this comic.
The Conclusion:
Its a western comic that is currently unique for what it is. Unless your picky about artwork or one those individuals who try to find reasons not to enjoy this issue, then I would suggest leaving this comic alone. If you are a Jonah Hex fan in any form or way or that you dont want to read this issue because of its cartoonish like appearance, then take my advice and give this comic a shot and you may find yourself really enjoying it. Another DC title that has fulfilled my own epectations within comic and has now served itself as one my top-rated issue because of how it how it got me interested in a western like comic and that its the very first western comic that I enjoyed.
Because of this issue, I will find myself going to local comicbook store and build up a Jonah Hex collection, and because of this issue I personally give this comic a 5/5 star rating, and its understandable why it would be seen as a 4/5 star rating because of the artwork. So if you haven't had the chance to read this issue, then I would suggest going to your local comicbook store and picking it up. You just may find yourself a Jonah Hex fan like myself.
Here is a small video I made of the comic, I really tried to keep as much spoilers out so that you could enjoy this issue if your interested.
