D'Agostino broke into comics in the 1940s, landing the role of head colourist at Timely Comics in New York, a firm that would later become Marvel Comics.  
  
The illustrator is best known for Archie contributions, working across titles including Archie's Pals 'N' GalsJughead's Time Police and Sonic The Hedgehog. He is also credited as a letterer in Marvel's landmark The Amazing Spider-Man #1 under the pseudonym Johnny Dee.

Archie Comics has confirmed that D'Agostino's last interior work will be published posthumously in Jughead Double Digest #166. Several of his cover illustrations will also appear in 2011.
